Those saying naruto are invalid because he borrows some of kurama s chakra to do most of his techniques (in part 1 mostly)

And you're getting mixed up between potential and talent. I find Gai to be an extremely talented shinobi, considering he created his own martial art style and can effectively use all 8 Gates. Just because he had to bust his ass to get there doesn't mean he's not talented, it means he barely had any potential.

It's the exact opposite. Gai had potential (it is just not everyone saw it) because in the end he could become a ninja he is right now. But because he had to put that much work into it proves that he wasn't the most talented one. Talent in a specific area means that everything comes easier for you, that you learn faster, without that much effort.

Gai didn't create it, either his father or somebody before him did. Yeah he is pure talent and dedication though.

I'm sure Gai created Strong Fist, although I could be wrong.

Hell no.

As an example, I may have the potential to become a great fighter, but right now, I couldn't fight to save my life. I have no talent in fighting. A talent is something that you have, potential is something that you have the capacity to develop into something in the future.

You've gotten it the wrong way round.

I disagree though. Gai has potential just like every other person has potential to become a great fighter. People who put that much work into becoming stronger will always feel the outcome of their training. Naruto has to train insanely hard to become stronger (pre-war arc at least). Sasuke barely has to train and becomes massively overpowered.) That's the difference between hard work and raw talent. Gai wouldn't be considered talented, he'd be considered hard working. Kakashi is as good as Gai, yet trains on a much smaller scale, it means he has more talent than Gai, but the raw talent is overcome through hard work.

Kakashi isn't as good as Gai in taijutsu, which is why I'd say Gai has more talent in the area than Kakashi regardless of the fact that Gai worked extremely hard to get to that stage. Lee and Neji are both taijutsu-oriented fighters, yet Lee trained at least 3 times greater than Neji and still couldn't close the gap [ ]. Neji has more potential but I'd say the gap in CQC skill between base Lee and base Neji is small. If Kakashi focused more on taijutsu, he'd be more talented in the area than Gai, and that's because he has more potential in that area.
