Who's your top three (or five, or ten) in willpower?

Mine goes:

1) Hanzo - Reststed Edo Tensei through willpower alone.

2) Lee - Need anything be said?

3) Sandaime Raikage - It takes a certain somethin to train your body to the point where you can withstand MOLECULAR DECONSTUCTION and rebuilding, something lethal to normal people.

Honorary mention: The Sannin. Orochimaru has taken lethal damage multiple times in a single fight (vs Four Tails mode) and nothing suggests he doesn't feel pain (except having a carefree attitude throughout the battle), Jiraiya lost an arm and got impaled multiple times before WILLING himself back to life and Tsunade also takes lethal damage and laughs it off (vs Madara) and seems to be in the process of reviving the other Kages WHILE MISSING HER LOWER BODY.

Lol willpower, the strongest thing in Naruto to date.. Willpower explains why/how Naruto defeated most of his opponents.. The Will of Fire baby, no one can even compare..

Naruto embodiment of the statement
Lee that.moment when he stood in the chunin exams defined his badassery and willpower
Kimmimaro was using his body through willpower alone

Willpower can't really be evenly quantified. Gai and Lee walk around the village on their hands, Kimimaro and Itachi will themselves to fight with half-dead bodies, Jiraiya restarts his heart for a few more seconds of life, etc. There's no linear scale. Realistically, the willfulness to suffer and die for your beliefs is the greatest example of willpower, and the vast majority of shinobi have that.

That's why this is an opinion-based thread, there's no really right or wrong answers, but only unconventional ones (Sasuke? Honestly...)

The main focus however is having the will to accomplish something seemingly IMPOSSIBLE through sheer grit.

Eh, Sasuke isn't a bad choice at all, considering that Kabuto attributed Sasuke overwhelming Orochimaru's personal dimension to pure willpower, and that Sasuke lead us to believe the same thing had saved him from Itachi's Tsukuyomi, although I believe the latter to have been faked by Itachi. I never got why people liked Naruto more than Sasuke. Naruto wanted to be a strong, generic hero to be admired, primarily by Sakura. Sasuke was trying to shut out everything so he could achieve vengeance for a horrifying injustice. In terms of character depth, Sasuke should have won by miles.

Naruto's reasons to be a hero are NOT primarily because he wants to be admired by Sakura (if anything Iruka fits this better) but rather, as was discovered during the Wave Arc, to protect those most precious to him. Protecting those you care about is a more relateable motivation for most people than killing those you really, really don't (but once did).

Other reasons for the vehement Sasuke-dislike people display? Perhaps it's how every character in the first half of the manga can't stop exclaiming about his incredible skill. The Sharingan is also a distinctly unfair sort of Bloodline, I think (and hope) Sasuke lost some goodwill after copying the taijutsu Lee worked himself half to death for. His motives post-Itachi are also all over the place and hard to sympathise with.

I speaking purely about part one, and I'd disagree that Naruto was all about the altruistic protection of friends. What he wanted was respect, and he was willing to use the Rasengan on the moments-ago-hospitalized Sasuke (his best friend) to get it. Naruto has developed however, and Sasuke has been devolving for hundreds of chapters. I'll cede that lol.

Tsunade: her will was so strong she overcame her hemophobia, and she has the will of fire for the senju clan. Her will is also strong because she argued with the the 5 kages on their decisions and also she argued at the elders for their decision on naruto. And she was also willing to fight the raikage when he threatened to kill naruto. And she is also gonna heal the kages while in half.

Naruto: for strongly believing that he will become hokage, for not going back on his word. For protecting his friends by risking his own life. etc

Lee: for His hard determination obtained from his master, but i will not elaborate on this because everyone knows how strong his will is :)

He was initially (before the Wave Arc) an egotistical brat of little intelligence, but with more than adequate reasons for ending up like that. Haku's philosophy tied in neatly to burgeoning considerations of people beyond himself, as well as with a (possibly subconscious) desire to prevent anyone ever experiencing what he did as a child. There's a reason why he's so horrified by Gaara, and why he tries so hard to connect to him and explain that Gaara's way of living (only for himself) just isn't feasible or even slightly correct. He pushes himself hard, so hard, to protect those he can during especially THAT battle, which for me cemented Naruto's views as a person (or, if you threaten his friends and comrades, as a force of nature).
