Nah not really, besides this is not a beauty contest , Character design is all about uniqueness,overall art quality and of course how well that design fits the character's personality, and some other adinitonary aspects like originality and badassery (if that's a word)gear 4 is excellent in all those aspects IMO

If you take the show itself into consideration of course you're gonna think it looks boss but at a stand alone it looks foolish.

Kind of like in the conteXT of naruto chidori is boss but in all reality its just an electrified jab.

ehh that would only be true if gear 4 was nothing but a body enhancement mode.......you're forgetting that luffy can stretch thanks to his DF and thus it won't really look plain boring compared to the other typical pretty boy transformations XD. Take sanji's black leg style for example, it looks really uniqe once you see it right? a guy that never uses his hands to fight but yet is able to kick ass, when in real life all he;s doing is kicking people
