Another Top 10 List! I love filler 90% of the time. New stories expanding current arcs? awesome. Bringing back old characters? Love it. Creating an entire arc? ....ummm maybe. Flashback episodes? No. There are both amazing and dismal filler out there in both Naruto & Naruto Shippuden and i'm going to go through my favourites now.

For the record the term 'filler' refers to any full episode that didn't take place in the original manga. (PTS means Part 1 & Shippuden is Shippuden)

10.) Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei's True Face! (PTS Episode 101)
As i'm sure we can all agree, this is the most iconic Naruto filler episode around. In a low-budget and light-hearted episode Team 7 spend their day trying to see under Kakashi's mask ending with...another mask.

I love this filler and it came at such an important part of the show. Tensions were getting high at this point in Part 1 with Orochimaru looming, the Akatsuki on their way and Sasuke drifting away from the group, this episode balances this out. It was a silly little adventure, the kind I wish the original Team 7 had gone on more of, because it makes them all seem human and captures the feel of part 1. Even Sasuke can't help but get dragged into this silly quest and it makes them seem like genuine friends. Not to mention it's just a funny and creative episode rather than dragging out actual manga content, which is always nice.

9.) Pure Terror! The House of Orochimaru (PTS Episode 139)

Boss. More Orochimaru coverage without actually showing Orochimaru, top stuff. This should've been in the original manga or maybe even Shippuden. Naruto, Sakura & Jiraiya get a good lead on Orochimaru and thus Sasuke and enter a demonic house in which mutants, backstabbing and Kabuto Yakushi lie. Not only is it my baby Kabuto playing dirty as usual but this is just great buildup to the mystery and hype of Orochimaru & Sasuke.

8.)Raiga's Counterattack (PTS Episode 156)

The curry of life arc was pretty mediocre but when it got serious it got serious. Neji, Lee, Tenten and Naruto fight one of the 7 Swordsmen Raiga. The animation is great, and even though Neji is knocked out, Naruto does nothing but spam shadow clones for like 8 episodes straight and Raiga is basically a Zabuza/Haku clone....it's more than redeemed by a nice character arc, Tenten being somewhat cool/useful and everyones favourite...

Drunken Fist Rock Lee.

7.) Kiba's Determination (Shippuden Episode 240)

Ever watched one episode and immediately GOT a character? Like you finally understood them and fell in love with them? I was like most of the fanbase and disliked Kiba but when I watched this one filler of Kiba just spending his day off training...it made him instantly one of my favourite characters in the entire NV.

Seeing his rivalry with Naruto from his perspective makes you see he isn't jealous or headstrong- he's genuinely proud of Naruto and loyal, he'd just never admit it. The flashback of Kiba beating Naruto in the race to the top of the hill, only for him to go back and see Naruto even beat him at that...did a total 180 and saved Kiba's character IMO. Also looks nice as f*ck.

6.)The Soul Living Inside The Puppet (Shippuden Episode 319)

Top-notch animation. Relevant Flashback. Interesting backstory we never really saw. Spoken through the narrative of Lady Chiyo you may think this episode may be a bit lacking but what it does tell is the twisted thorough backstory of Sasori...and jfc it's interesting. It basically shows his descent into an actual monster as he slowly turns his best friend into a puppet. Also we get some really good action with the basically unused edo tenseis of Kimimaro and Chiyo (who did nothing in the manga)

5.) The Fallen Castle (Shippuden Episode 310)

Totally unrelated, I admit- the reason this is so high on the list is because it's everything a Naruto filler SHOULD BE. It gave us a cool new character, reminds us Naruto is best when joined with other teams, part 1 characters and settings mixed in with Shippuden elements (Deidara and Sasori are the main villains, Yamato is in the story)

but it captures the nostalgic feel of Part 1 and gives us what really SHOULD'VE BEEN AN ARC IN PART 1. We also see Sasori literally take that castle...the hype is real.

4.) Aesthetics of an Artist (Shippuden Episode 280)

Edo Deidara gets loose from his prison. He runs around for a bit and then gets put in. It does absolutely nothing...but it's a great episode. Why? Because it doesn't even feel like filler. It is maybe the only episode to ever consider Deidara's personality and the reason he does what he does other than "ART IS AN EXPLOSION" shouted every 5 seconds. Sasori may have given out like a b*tch but Deidara has a bit more trouble to cause. And it's quite fun because Deidara is just really at the end of it all...just a bit of a nuisance.

Not only is Deidara a fun character but he's one who got fodderised in the war and never really got a moment to shine. Also Kurotsuchi pretending to be Sasuke and Mifune kicking ass are nice additions.

3.) Ghosts From The Past (Shippuden Episodes 303-305)

Okay I admit, I may be a little biased with this one. I LOVE the Sound Four, I think they were interesting, short-lived and fun to watch. I will take anything with them in that I can...so a perfectly animated 3 parter where they not only show new abilities but also ARE AN ACTUAL THREAT....i'm totally cool with this. The first episode in particular because it's the best animated and masterfully edited. You see that picture in my signature? That's Neji VS Kidomaru.

This is one of my favourite episodes and I prefer it to most canon fights. 4 real.

2.) Madara Uchiha (Shippuden Episode 322)

THIS EPISODE THO

Hey remember that episode where...MADARA SHOWED UP AND KILLED EVERYONE!? You know the one. Everybody knows this episode...because everybody was flipping their sh*t when it was released. Out of all the episodes (canon OR filler) in Naruto I don't think there's one which is absolutely perfect in every way and impossible to turn away from than this one, it's the one that everybody showed their friends because it was just that hardcore...non-Madara fans were getting converted by the second and I still see GIFs from it to this day.

The best entrance to any character in probably any anime ever. The manga chose to focus his hype more on the Kage fight, which was a nice take on it too but seeing Madara plough through the SA both fodder and main characters...was intense. Everybody got their moment to shine and it was the episode we had been promised since the War started. It didn't disappoint...it's only topped by....

1.) Chikara (Shippuden Episodes 290-295)

You must be registered for see images

All of it. I absolutely adore this arc and it's by far my favourite arc of the entire series, even if it supposedly didn't actually happen, f*ck the haters- I prefer it to the Chunnin Exams, Sasuke Retrieval and Pain Invasion Arc. It's hard to believe it wasn't actually planned to be a movie, it was just as long as the movies and had perfect consistent animation throughout....was this meant to be a Naruto movie?

New Team Kakashi whilst on a mission get wrapped up in the plans of a pre-war Kabuto Yakushi and evil colleagues of his. Touching when it needs to be, amazing action also when necessary...it was a true celebration of Naruto. We got to see Guy & Lee going as a 8 Gates Tag Team against the 9 Tails, Sai VS Deidara, A wild clone Kurama on the loose, all of the favourite, Deidara and Hidan for fanservice, perfect cinematography, an engaging plot and a fantastic glowy finale...

There's nothing to hate about Chikara. It's not only the best filler ever, but my actual favourite episode ever. Wow that's weird to get off my chest. Hope you enjoyed this major geekout rant top 10 list. Tell me your own!

The chikara Arc was awesome, and that animation was sexy.

I haven't seen any of these except the one where they tried to see Kakashi's face.

Some look cool though and I might them check out.

I approve your list. Usually I despise filler, but your list was made with the only filler I enjoyed. A few of those I never even knew existed though that I would actually like to check out (like the Fallen Castle). Any chance you could edit this list with the episode number in the description, and if its in part 1 or Shippuden?

Never would've even considered Sasori a decent character, if it weren't for that episode. And other fillers about him.

Honestly the Chakra Arc started so amazingly and just slowly spiraled down hill for me.... I mean what happens to everyone after Deidara's bombs?! Completely disappear after that.

My favorite arc was probably the Guren Arc.

I liked all the fillers in your list. In the Original Naruto, my favorite fillers is the Raiga Arc. For Shippuden it has to be either Chikara, 3 tails Arc, or the Sound 4.

One day I'll make my own favorite filler, cause yours look so well done effort

Thanks! And yeah they are all great additions to the story, i'll look forward to seeing it :)

You haven't seen the Madara episode!? o_O

They really are worth it, they're all worth your time but the top 4 for sure ,sometimes Studio Perriot just hits the nail on the head...other times they use the ninja ostrich...

EDIT: Added the Episode Numbers to the thread!

IMO liking or hating a filler depends on the age..some are good some are childish

The age...? The Soul Living Inside The Puppet and Aesthetics of an Artists were both mature in tone and dark, exploring both characters. The older ones in part 1 were childish but...it was part 1, what do you expect :')

I think the occasional filler in part 1 was necessary, even if they were a bit silly at times- they diffused tension and just reminded the audience to have a good time.

I'm going with Shino vs Torune simply because I got to see Fu :yayy: Even though it was flawed in terms of consistency with manga. Heck, Torune's nanobugs being alive despite him being a zombie (and using Fu's body) doesn't make sense, but who cares, I got to see my faves!

I would actually add Torune and Shino to this list in retrospect, I don't think it was out when I made it. It was a great episode and seeing Shino be relevant? Top.
