...Uhh? You are overrating Totsuka. It's a giant sword. Getting killed or getting sealed, it's pretty much the same difference in the end; you're gone.

We just don't know if getting sealed by Totsuka is reversible, if it is then the clan wouldn't be gone forever.

Wasn't really an ambush if you wait for sasuke to witness most of it.
