I haven't read the manga but I just finished season 2. Even though I hear it's not canon it's still amazing.

The first season was good. The second season was cometastic. The manga was fabulous, and then I went ape shit on the last chap. The second part is....meh.

I'm planning on doing that after i'm done watching the alternative verse or filler aka season 2. I hope they have this badass kaneki in the manga if not then it's going to be a pain the ass.

Kaneki in the manga is somewhat different from the anime in the later stages but in a better way.
The thing about him being a wuss at the start was a necessary piece of plot which is shown as his flashbacks happen etc and his character is explained.If he was actually credible from the get go you would basicly have a whole different story.

That being said you should read from Ch.1 and if you do you will have to put up with him again till the torture so theres that

Oh and if you do read it you should know that even tho the "normal" manga ends there is a new one called Tokyo Ghoul :Re which is just the story continuing,same writer etc,just an extra :Re in the name

Well obviously there are stronger people than him,what would be a point in making the MC the strongest one mid way through.I dont know how to word how some stuff works without spoiling it so I wont bother since I am afraid of ruining the experience.
However with your description I rlly wanna post a pic and say some stuff,not to be a **** and spoil it but just cause it kinda makes me laugh xD

Well they did changed a lot of things from the manga material, although the ending was horrible... gosh lol... Eto is the best character though..

I'ma start reading chapter 3 of the sequel when i wake up, i hope for the best.

Yeah i noticed, they changed a lot of things in the anime, like foreal chill and follow the manga panels... ugh~
