Tokyo Ghoul:re worth while read?

Hey guys,
So I started reading tokyo ghoul and it took me a while to finish as I felt the first 60 or so chapters were very slow and there was a lot of exposition and new characters being brought in unnecessarily. I finally finished the first manga and i was left with more questions unanswered than answered at the end of the manga.

Is it worth while to start reading tokyo ghoul:re or should i just look for a new manga to read.

You're probably referring to the Aogiri, Quinx, and Washuu. They're all integral to the plot. It would be silly if the story was only about a freshman's dire state of affairs; it's around the time that these characters are introduced that you notice the larger themes and subplots that will be answered in :re. The prequel is only half the comedy story.
Don't try to rush the story if you do decide to continue.

The pacing in :re is relatively faster than the prequel. It begins slow and then at some point the brakes on this hype train just malfunction.

If you're not sure to continue the masterpiece that is TG, i guess this Manga isn't for you or you didn't get it. (i wonder though why some people say it's hard to understand what's going on :|)

The first two resposnes have their avatars from one of my two favourite mangas which is good news

And its not so much that i didnt understand what was going on, more i guess i dont find it very engaging with the slow pacing and onslaught of characters mixed in to form some large conspiracy or whatever the end result of the manga may be. I guess im more unsure of where the manga and the storyline is really heading as the direction of the first manga seemed a bit all over the place, with Kaneki worried about eating humans, being tortured an then not giving a shit about killing, then realizing he isnt the strongest and begins to go insane again.


Im okay with mangas/animes not having a main overall plot like i love cowboy bebop and samurai champloo as it has really good characters and each episode displays them well. But Tokyo ghoul due to its large number of characters from Agori tree, to the coffee shop, to the human ghoul investigators and then the doctor kanou and rize, and kanekis little group with banjou, i dunno, i feel there is no focus and its hard to really support a character.

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if the first arc was soley about kanou and rize then the next about the agori tree with the investigators coming in occasionally and building up towards them all meeting together rather than it starting off with all the storylines intertwined.
I guess I was hoping the story would be a bit more like death note with an investigators vs murderers, evil vs good type of story but i guess ill see how ghoul:re goes.

Slow pacing ha? Well then I got good news for you. In :Re Ishida just doesn't know how to stop after some chapters. Literally we could use some moments of peace and talking but nope, tension boogie woogie (you don't get this now but you will ).

You are right though, I am rereading TG right now and holy shit is it slow for the first 50 chapters until Aogiri is introduced.

As for the overall plot, you need to keep in mind that Ishida plans ahead. Really far ahead. We are talking about the guy that named chapter 72 "Half way" and ended the manga at 144 chapters. Lots of foreshadowing that makes no sense makes sense later (that happens in :re a lot so you should read it to get what you were reading and wondering about in TG).

As for the Death Note analogy, well the main organizations of the Tokyo Ghoul universe have yet to reveal their motives, let alone their plans. Only now after 60 chapters of :re we are getting a glimpse of what Aogiri miiiight be planning. Whereas DN made that clear from the very start but lasted 100 something chapters if I remember correctly. Tokyo Ghoul looks like it still has a long way to go.

It is though, apparently. Especially if you speed-read it. A friend of mine did that and now he doesn't get what's really going on.
