I was influenced into making this thread thanks to these:
I am not sure if this has been done before, but after reading those two threads I realized something, together, both those ideas are Obito's true plans.
Why would someone who has his soul require a jutsu like Rinne Tensei? I personally think that Madara could have been brought back sooner with that jutsu. But Obito made a change in the original plans.
In these images, you see that Obito and Zetsu's alliance had already begun! Zetsu had been watching over Kakashi and Rin for him. The entire time Madara was sleeping Obito and Zetsu had already started to become closer as friends and allies.
And then there was the merger:
My point with this thread is this: Madara had originally meant to be the one to cast Tsukuyomi. But that would mean everyone else would be unaware of reality! This did not sit well with Obito. He wasnt planning on bringing Madara back, instead, he wanted to revive Rin with Rinne Tensei! After he would resurrect the Juubi himself, he could control the rest of the world with his own Mugen Tsukuyomi with Rin by his side!
Bringing Rin back can be understood as solid motivation for Obito, since the guy grew up in a little cave thinking about her all the time!
Plus Zetsu empathizes with him, since he too has been with Obito for the longest time listening to his stories about his friends!
