As the title says, and my proof is chapter "527 - Secret Word". Tsunade states that they beat the 2nd to the verge of near death, meaning they didnt kill him, they only wounded him and Tobirama must have died later on after a few years when Hiruzen started growing his beard...

the gold/silver brothers attack was an earlier incidence, and it involved Tobirama and one other Kage (probably Raikage I can't remember). They beat both the Kage and Tobirama to near death.
the 20 skilled bounty hunters incident led to Tobirama's death. That was when he pre appointed Hiruzen as Hokage (tomorrow).

He died facing the kinkau unit which was comprised of 20 of the most elite nin the cloud had at the time.

No there are two separate events that take place, the first time: it was a surprise attack for a coup d'etat, the other was during the Shinobi war and the Second and his team (which had Hiruzen and Danzo in it) they were surrounded by Cloud shinobi of Jounin level, he died then.
So you implying the 3rd Raikage sent those 20 shinobi to kill the 2nd? after they where talking of a truce? Come on be real... read the manga again. That was 1 incident Hiruzen and Danzo where Tobirama's escourts to the truce meeting which went bad.

. Ōnoki also managed to train at least Deidara, during his tenure as leader.Tobirama surviving the incident would ruin the significance of his last words and would be meaningless.
Your second post isn't very reasonable:
- in the first incident, Tobirama and the Second Raikage were ambushed. It was a coup d'état.
- as for the second incident, Tobirama was alone; he served as a decoy. It was in the middle of a war.

Does it really matter regardless of when he died he created a technique that basically voids the notion of death.
It might be possible that he died after facing the kinkaku force. He has a Space/time jutsu, he could have teleported away when he was outnumbered. Then married the white fangs mother. Making him Kakashi's grandfather. xd
