ok after reading the latest manga, my focus came to the last few pages (after madara got his EMS and lost the ensuing battle with rival hashi). hashi still wanted to make peace, but madara refused to trust him unless he agreed to either kill himself or his own brother (says boldly the guy who's at the mercy of his enemies..um, not really how this works but whatever, guy). at first, i was absolutely stupefied at the fact that madara (who could have easily been crossed out on the spot) would make such audacious demands. then i got to thinking.. that's why edo tensei was created. humor me for a spell.. it's a bit of a stretch guys.

note: if you cant read at 8th grade level or higher, or just dont want to go through all that s***, just skip to the simplified conclusion at the bottom. convenient, rite?

first and foremost, we all know hashi would never kill his own brother.. period, rite? now i feel hashi is noble enough to not put himself above self sacrifice -> however, in this situation, it's a lose-lose deal. now i assume we all know that should he kill himself, tobirama (henceforth referred to as tobi) would suffer the same fate as madara, forever plunged into a cycle of hatred and despair, etc, only resulting in more war between the two clans, thus utterly defeating the purpose of hashi's self sacrifice, rite?

well, my theory is this: hashi offers to commit seppuku for madara's sake and for the sake of peace between warring clans. madara gets all surprise-faced (not thinking hashi to be about that life), but nonetheless accepts. tobi attempts to stop his brother, like, "wtf are you talking about?! for him?! f**k that! dont be stupid! he killed pappa senju!" - or whatever, something like that. hashi shoots another death stare at tobi (just because lol) then softens up a bit to explain his noble gesture (and how foolish the fighting is, and how tobi's mentality precipitates the never-ending cyle, etc) and eventually makes tobi see his point of view. hashi then strengthens his own resolve "naruto-style" and re-iterates the deal (more for tobi's sake than for madara's) and is about to go hara-kiri when tobi stops him one more time but with a more solemn, sort of head-down thing like, "wait.. there is one other way". both hashi and madara get super surprise-faced again as tobi explains, "i havent perfected it yet but i was saving this in case you died bro. it's called the edo tensei technique." tobi asks for a "sample" of izuna (perhaps a fresh eye or two? a lock of hair or something idk-idc), then revives madara's lost brother (who is not under tobi's conrtol, as tobi hadn't thought of using orochi-style kunai to restrain him). from there, maybe an imperfect form of izuna or a time limit or something, maybe izuna attacks tobi because that's all he remembers, but generally some kind of imperfection, etc, thus leaving room for improvement. madara sees this and helps tobi perfect the technique over time (perhaps even using up all izuna's "sample data"). whether or not they succeed in fully reviving izuna, madara accepts all this effort as payment or at least being even with hashi/senju. they call truce, konoha is born, madara still misses his brother, defects to the dark side again (maybe because he used up all izuna's DNA and cant re-revive him, so looks for another way; naraka path?), eventually discovers/awakens his rinnegan (found it!), bam, it's 1:39am.
conclusion: hashi agrees to suicide to stop the fighting, tobi prevents him and tells them both about the secret technique he's been working on (edo tensei), the tech is somehow imperfect so madara helps tobi complete it (which also explains how he himself learned it), madara still goes bad, im tired. end of thread.
