I think that most of the reasons why... ahem... *some* of you believe in "Tobidara"... are actually valid reasons to prove that Kishi retconned Tobi's identity (i.e., he changed his mind halfway through the story). Especially the thing about Kurama recognizing Tobi's chakra 16 years ago. That always bothered me.

Not really.
There were certain details not explained exactly.
Madara taught Tobi several special jutsu, so as other ninja would think that Tobi is Madara.
It was not about Madara chakra.
When Sasuke could able to enter into Naruto mind and see Kurama,
Then Kurama said that he/it did not like user with sharingan eye, which were Uchiha clan;
The first sharingan eye that manipulate him/it was Madara, it became into Kurama mind (if he had).
Follow up Obito summoned him/it, and he/it see that sharingan eye, so he/it would naturally consider Obito as Madara.
Kurama saw Madara face with sharingan eye, but Obito had the mask but with the same sharingan eye.
Ninja, eg 3rd Hokage, could sense Kurama chakra (or tailed-beast chakra).
Only ninja with special sensor, eg Karin, could had the power to differentiate each ninja chakra, but
Karin cannot sense that particular chakra if she did not encountered before. (Sasuke with Kabuto)
Is Kurama was the sensor type...

I'd never seen that pilot chapter before...cool, thanks for sharing!
I do wonder why there still are ppl that believe in Tobidara. I think maybe they are trolling but then again some seem genuinely convinced that this Tobidara character is just gonna pop out at any minute and claim FV status. I have to admit that a long time ago, before the reveal that Obito helped Itachi in the clan massacre, I really thought that if Tobi wasn't Obito he was going to be Fugaku. I didn't know about Izanagi then but it made sense to me that he might be out masquerading as someone else to exact revenge and to be able to keep an eye on his sons. Lol Those were the days when theories and predictions were fun! Now we are just waiting on more explanations from Hagoromo about the seal, his brother Hamara (like why even mention him unless there's something special), the sage tools in the scroll Ten Ten dropped, how BZ will be defeated, and whethr or not Naruto and Sasuke will fight again with the same epicness of their first fight in the battle of the end! Ok.....still quite a bit to be excited about =D

yes he was already pretending, he had already met yahiko and nagato.
i wouldnt rule out a possibility of bz influence on obito, but not madara.
kurama also recognized a cold chakra in sasuke. like madaras

obito is dead, so it shouldnt matter anymore.

I don't think he would say that out loud to Kushina (who was going to die anyway) on the off-chance that Yahiko & Friends were hiding in a bush somewhere. Might as well have just kept quiet. I know the Obito reveal was decided well before its actual reveal, but I don't think it was decided from the very beginning.

The thing about Kurama saying Sasuke's chakra reminding him of Madara's... I think that's more of an Indra connection. I still don't understand why Kurama never recognized Ashura inside Naruto, though that's a whole different topic altogether.

Completely agree! In no way do I let any of this stuff make me love this manga any less. I think/hope Kishi is saving the best for last. I don't think Sasuke and Naruto will fight, but then again, it wouldn't be the first time Sasuke has a mood swing lol.

Kurama recognizes Tobi's chakra, and is placed under genjutsu before he can say anything.

I think it's reasonable for Kurama to recognize his chakra (or chakras depending on how woven in Madara's chakra was) considering that Minato was his sensei and that Kushina would have likely met Obito and I would hazard a guess to think that Kurama is strong enough to read chakras outside of Kushina's body.

Totes on the multiple tailed beast thing though and probably a lot of other points.

Seems like Kishimoto runs his story like a storyteller in a table top RPG, with a solid structure but room for flexibility.

Seems like Shippuden is where things tend to line up smoothly. Part 1 is a bit inconsistent.

I had seriously never thought about your first point, about Kurama knowing Obito from being inside Kushina. I have to go back and re-read, but that actually makes a lot of sense , thanks :D

True, unless being Sharingan-controlled is kind of like suffering amnesia, so events immediately preceding it are erased from the memory.
