Just a heads up, the english translation by Viz for Tobi's line "they were mine to begin with" is "they were always mine!"

Izuna would make sense, Madara knows Nagato, Nagato's eyes were always Tobi's, and Madara's own eyes also belong to Izuna.

Tobi is a zetsu clone formed when zetsu touched madara and copied his chakra signature and personality. He made to keep nagato on the right path and mastermind his resurrection years later. Tobi stole eyes from other uchiha clan members, trained and developed enough ability to summon kyuubi against konoha but lost to the 4th. He convinced yahiko to form akatsuki since he needed more manpower, captured 7bijuu and planned to reseal them in his true uchiha madara body to be resurrected by nagato. Nagato died so tobi planned to do the eye of the moon plan himself by taking nagato's rinnegan to seal the 7bijuu into himself however kabuto came into the picture. Tobi decided to go capture the remaining jinchuuriki but is currently having trouble with that. He ultimately plans to use sasuke to defeat naruto and bee to get the remaining bijuu and seal them within himself. He has no further wishes to resurrect himself but intends on kabuto using his edo form to win the war after which he would kill kabuto and free his edo of the reanimation jutsu, hereby uniting with himself and the juubi to cast infinite tsukuyomi and gain the world.

Sorry but that would be an incredibly lame twist, a major villain is only a shadow of two others? Tobi probably has his own identity and motives.

U_U No! Itachi was shown to have mangekyou sharingan before he killed off the clan!, that's when Sasuke asked his dad if there were several types of sharingan!

My theory is that Tobi is Izuna in Kagami's/Obito's body ( hence the S/T jutsu ), or maybe some part of Madara in Kagami's/Obito's body

Omg dude that makes sense! Body switching is known in Naruto too. Maybe Orochimaru and Tobi and Madara had some plans together. Plus, does anyone think Orochimaru's internal world (the one where the ritual takes place that he tried to use on Sasuke and Tobi's little world inside him is related? xd

U_U No! Itachi was shown to have mangekyou sharingan before he killed off the clan!, that's when Sasuke asked his dad if there were several types of sharingan!

Actually Itachi gained his MS after he killed Shisui....

Shisui was Itachis mentor and a friend.

Shisui commited suicide I think.​

Yeah, I am starting to think the same. I also think we are a few flashbacks away of knowing; not sure who's flashback it will be, but Kishi's pretty good at giving little clues here and there. The Kisame flashback was the closest to revealing something... well, until he bit his tongue off

The mystery of Tobi actually reminds me of Final Fantasy Vii where Sephiroph has all these clones trying to become one, the difference here being that there's only one clone trying to become complete.

My theory is that Tobi is indeed a Zetsu clone, as they're reportedly as close to the real thing as clones can get and the fact that Tobi leeks white goo.

Tobi alludes that he's only a former shell of himself, and while Zetsu is able to copy a person exactly, they in no way match the strength of the original.

Also, Tobi calling himself a "nobody" might be him alluding to the fact that he's a mere clone, and I believe his goal is to become whole (which I think may be mentioned in the manga, can not remember now).

its hard for me to decide but i think it could possibly be itachi and sasukes dad. he was missing during the attack of the 9 tails 16 years ago and was the head of the clan. i mean if itachi and sasuke were so talented, wouldnt they have got that talent from somewhere?

This is a new and interesting angle for me, being somewhat of a noob to this whole Tobi theory. Thinking about it for a moment, in many manga scenes, Tobi did seem to "watch from a distance", especially with Sasuke, like a father would watch his son play a sport. Thanks for the thought, bo1t!

well this is one of them tobi theories if he can revive madara who died about 80 years agoo why cant he revive obito who died 18 years ago and why kakashi out of all people to fight tobi

i think zetsu saved him from a rock put white zetsu in his cells ik he fought minato as a man but he could have possibly learn to switch bodies like oro and tried to kill minato for letting him down just my imo dont bash me

Notice black and white zetsu can have 2 personalties I will come back later.

My theory if it was obito - Here's my theory obito's near death experience enabled him to unlock his ability to become intangible and pass through solid objects (or he could of teleported) and barely makes it out alive from the underground cave with the right side of his body half crushed. Right after this he encountered Zetsu who meets this young boy with special eye powers and saves him. I belive Zetsu is some sort of creation by madara “The way I see it is that, when madara was dying he activated the rinnegan, and let zetsu take the rinnengan from him, along with the harashima cells, and also some of madara's own DNA. He then tells zetsu implant all of these things into a piece of zetsu body, like a big enough chunk to make a body, hence developing a second madara. That had all his memories (or possibly he could of extracted his entire brain?) and shit.”

And later infused this body with obito who he found because he needed the body of an uchiha and this was he’s perfect chance because the uchiha’s were all still alive and he didn’t want to engage into combat.

Now what if zetsu before meeting obito implanted the rinnegan into an uzumaki child (nagato). So he could get the Sage Body |Sage Eyes sort of thing in order to study it abilities and then later when this uzumaki child was powerful enough revive madara in his prime.
But as this uzumaki got older and stronger zetsu knows he wouldn’t be able to guide and control this child anymore, which is why he needed an uchiha body to put madara’s dna, memories and harashima cells into. Which he later did when he lucky found this defenceless boy with special eye power.. Obito.
