The only way Tobi could have known the birth place of naruto: Danzo. Danzo and Tobi had to have been working together. Only a powerful Uchiha could control the Fox. So basically, danzo framed the Uchiha to lead to their execution... but wait, why would Tobi want this? Who would want revenge on the uchiha? I have a hunch it could be Madara's brother: Izuna Uchiha. Izuna is the only one with proper motive to want to destroy the leaf. Their first Hokage killed his brother and his clan lost faith in being independent and submitted to their former mortal enemy, he was very close to his brother, making it easier to impersonate him, and as powerful as him too.
It makes sense that Izuna would want to kill the Uchiha: to blame it on the leaf, so sasuke would take revenge.
For those of you who missed it, Tobi isn't Madara. Tobi was PISSED when Kabuto ressurected Madara. Tobi LIED to everyone claiming he was Madara. Only to be a big enough threat to start the war. That's what Tobi wanted.
which is also why Tobi manipulated sasuke into killing Danzo, because danzo knew who tobi really was, and it would foil his plans.
And why did Tobi wait til AFTER itachi was dead to talk to sasuke? either because Itachi knows who Tobi is, or because Tobi lied to sasuke.
so what happens when Sasuke finds out this truth? that TOBI is the responsible one for killing the Uchiha. perhaps, that is what itachi has to say to sasuke. let's hope it's not too late. I can imagine Sasuke and Naruto teaming up to kill Tobi.
I can also imagine the series ending with Sasuke as the Hokage and Naruto venturing the world as Jiraya did. I could also imagine a civil war of the leaf village as another alternative. it may seem different, but it's not a crack theory like the obito=tobi one.
