Tobi shouldn't have been Obito.

Kagami was mentioned once briefly in a random flashback before that, I'm not even sure he said anything. How was he a better pick than Obito?
He was around the most biased Uchiha haters of the time (Tobirama and Danzo) and during his era the uchiha started to get displeased with the leaf while being well informed enough about Hashirama, Madara, and Tobirama is on a personal level.
Tobi's intellect and knowledge seems to be like he was in that era with Hiruzen, so it'll make sense.

That and he looks able (power wise) like Tobi

Nah, Obito was perfect. His reasoning was poor. He should have retained some badassery after the reveal.

Tobirama actually liked him and Danzo didn't really seem to hate him. All the other stuff is just assumption. Honestly, from a plot perspective, its just a stupid idea.

I mean, for one, literally no one in the battlefield would have any idea on who Kagami was.

Well no duh it's a speculation. All of this was prior to the reveal, and the thing was that it all added up. We didn't know Tobirama liked the Uchihas at the time, we were under the impression that he kicked the Uchihas off the corner of Konoha as police dogs until Tobirama came in and justified his actions. We also didn't know Tobirama liked Kagami prior to the reveal either. And after what Danzo did, there is no way he likes the Uchihas at all. He ordered them to be all killed and abused their eyes, he even went behind Hiruzen/Itachi's back to try and kill Sasuke who is a rogue ninja.

So before the clarification of what really happened, Kagami was the one that made the most sense out of all of them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did we even know that Tobirama was a **** to Uchiha back then? I don't think so. Also, I think Danzo's idea of the Uchiha came from the fact that they tried organizing a coup on the village, long after Kagami was seemingly dead and gone, and even if that wasn't the case, it still doesn't justify him in the role of Tobi nearly as much as Obito would

Yes we did know that he was a **** to the Uchihas back then. It was in the flashback story about the Uchihas and Itachi. Regardless of the coup introduction or not, it was still mention before the Obito reveal, so my point still stands.
Tobi knew how Madara, Hashirama, and Tobirama was like as well as the details of when the Uchihas started realizing that they were outcast from the village. He knew all these stuff that bridge from hashi/mads era all the way down to the fourth hokage's era, and Obito fitting that quo does not make sense whatever.

Obito only knew so much because of Madara's genjutsu and zetsu's recording, if not for that he would've been left with as much knowledge as Kakashi. That's why kagami seemed more plausible at the time pre-reveal. Tobi had to be someone who was just old enough to know and interact with madara and still lived up to minato's era, and kagami fit that bill until the whole gedo life force thing keeping 80 to 90 year old relics alive.
