the fight between minato and tobi was staged it really felt like tobi wanted to mess with minato mind.

what tobi real intention was to give minato pain that obito felt losing rin.

think about it what was obito going to do with the nine tails,if obito wanted to put the nine tails in the gedo mazou it wouldn't work since you need to capture the tailed beast in order or the gedo mazou will crumble.

if obito had wood release all this time why did he not use it in his fight with minato well i guess because he didn't have to think about obito could have made wood clones to fight minato but chose not too.

so really i think obito's real intentions was for kushina to die because tobi could have fought back against minato for control of the nine tails if he wanted it that badly but tobi just left instead.

I think he just wanted to destroy konoha for 2 reasons:
1. The aspects of being a shinobi are fraudulent and just like sasuke, does not understand the point of shinobi, villages, etc.
2. Pretend to be Madara so that his future endeavors would mask him from being obito.
