This is a bit long, but please consider reading all of it because I find it quite interesting. The other day I was talking with one of my friends who recently started Naruto, skimmed through the Manga in a couple of days and didn't understand why I really liked it. I told him that I had watched the cartoon since I was a child, and that the anime can hold more emotion through music and more visual signals. This sparked a thought in my brain on how Kishimoto wanted us to view tobi/obito. A couple of questions have stood out to me such as:

1. Did Kishimoto expect the audience to make so many predictions, theories, or suspicions about tobi?
2. Was he thinking the revealing of Tobi would be as epic as it was?
3. And finally, did he try and make many possibilities on who the masked man could be such as Danzo with his covered eye, Izuna from the "wrinkles" on tobi's face, and all of the other wild guesses out there?

I have these specific questions because I wonder if Kishimoto took into thought about how long it would actually be from when the time the masked man appeared, and when he was revealed as Obito(roughly five years.) . For example if you started the manga today and read it in a week the revelation that Tobi is Obito wouldn't be very interesting. But since many of us have waited for chapters every week for multiple years, the time in between has allowed us to think more about each chapter, make theories, scrutinize every little detail, and sometimes come up with ridiculous ideas. What do you guys think Kishimoto wanted us to think of Tobi from when he was revealed till now.

Side note: If Masashi Kishimoto took all this into account while planning this very complicated and creative plot; I think he is a genius and dosn't deserve to be bashed by his fans about stupid things. I might be busy so don't get mad if I don't respond, but feel free to discuss what you want, and again sorry if I blabberd for too long.

I think he wanted people to guess tobi was different people but there was still a lot of hints that it was obito especially as far back as chapter 16

Yes, but do you think kishi took into account everything that concerns Tobi such as time from his debut and revelation?

nice research. From manga point of view, Kishi did much for suspense for the Naruto fans. But he don't care a Sh*t about the anime. I can say that clearly from what we are experiencing and getting from the anime.

I think he always intended tobi to be obito and that's part of the reason kakashi gaiden was created.
