That was most likely to showcase Susanoo. If Kishi would have showed it before Kirin struck, it wouldn't have been as good an introduction. Just like how he had the storm clouds form while Itachi and Sasuke were fighting, with Itachi not noticing them until the prep was more or less ready.

Poor excuse. Even if he wanted to showcase Susanoo, it doesn't change the fact that he wrote what happened into the manga.

Itachi was blitzed by Kabuto, who sure as hell isn't as fast as lightning, which is faster than the speed of sound. And he was fighting him already, so he would have been watching himself for attacks. It wasn't a case of Kabuto sneaking up on him randomly while he was strolling around.

-His mental reaction speed is capable of reacting to lightning, not his physical so he couldn't dodge.

-Not to mention Itachi took the hit on purpose so he could get into position to replicate his second movement for Izanami.

Seems you didnt get what I was saying. Basically what am saying is he started activated susano milliseconds before kirin was fired, but it didnt materialize until it was about to hit him

And then literally right after that happens. So, if Susano'o wasn't up beforehand, and Itachi survived Kirin with Susano'o, we can only infer Itachi put up Susano'o during the lightning strike.
