Tips on sketching anime characters?

This is something I'd like to do, however, it has defied all of my attempts.
I'm not sure why it is that I am unable to portray the characters I'm drawing. I'm pretty good at regular art styles. (Non-anime)
The sketches I do resemble the characters but it seems the lines are to squared/rough/ugly. Any tips? .-.

I'm doing this because my GFX computer's hard drive failed. And I need something to eat away at my hours of free time.

Hmm maybe try using soft sharp pencil first so that line is nearly not visible and then when you trace it try to do smooth straight line. dunno i dont draw much (im close to total noob at drawing xd) check some vids on youtube or this
