I'm no genius debater myself, but over the years of participating in Naruto debates(Vs or otherwise), I've learned a few different ways to make creating an informed, well done post easier, and figured I'd share them with everyone here. Hopefully everyone can come away having learned one or two things from this.

Also excuse the mass amount of Kakashi referenced in this post, but I'm sure that's self explanatory.

Better Way To Post Manga Scans/Panels

Probably the favorite thing that I've learned of over these years is to use . This is a program you download that allows you to select any portion of what's on your computer screen, then upload it directly.

This comes in handy when you're wanting to post specific panels from a page and don't want to have to post the entire page in a spoiler box or have to link to each page.

So if I want to take the top of the page where Tsunade/Jiraiya discuss Kakashi, instead of posting this:

You must be registered for see images

or

or

It's as simple as pressing the print screen button on my keyboard, selecting the top of the image, uploading it and then posting it:

You must be registered for see images

It can make for a much neater post, eliminates(more often than not, anyway) the need for people needing to click on your links to view your manga panel, can eliminate any possible confusion about what panel you may be referencing, and can help drive home the point a little further.

Jutsu/Statement References

One of the biggest annoyances in debating can often be trying to locate the page that a certain statement was made or a jutsu was used. Some ways to make that easier include:

- Probably the most commonly used method to help with this problem, at least in regards to the jutsus. Type in the jutsu in the search bar and go to it's respective page, and it will tell you what chapter the jutsu was first ever used in.

A problem that can occur with that is if it's a jutsu that has been used more than once, as the information on the sidebar only provides the chapter it was first used in. Ways around that include:

- On Narutopedia, you can read in the description, usage, trivia and etc of the jutsu to see if it references any other characters using the technique. If it does, it'll often have a page mark as a reference. An example being for Chidori, it's first use being credited to Sasuke, but if you read in the Usage section of the jutsu, you'll find a reference to the chapter Kakashi first used it:

This method also works by going to a character's page on Narutopedia and reading through the different sections of the page and seeing if the jutsu is ever referenced in it.

- If that doesn't work, google is your next best friend. As an example, Mass Shadow Clones technique's first use occurred in chapter 1 by Naruto, and if you try finding out the chapter in which Kakashi used it, there's no reference of it on the technique's page, and while it's mentioned on Kakashi's page, a chapter/page reference is not given. So your best shot at finding the page he did it on is with google. Simply type in "CharacterName Jutsu" in google, and then go to images. So for this example, I typed in "Kakashi Mass Shadow Clones" and the page he performed it on is the second image given in Google Images.

Beyond this your best bet is just remembering what fight the jutsu occurred in and reading the chapters that covered that fight.

- Two of the methods listed above also cover the statements aspect. If you want to find out what chapter Jiraiya and Tsunade claimed Kakashi was a Hokage candidate, you look under abilities on Kakashi's profile/page, and there it will be:

You must be registered for see images

The googling aspect in this regard can be a bit trickier and it may require a little more digging than with the jutsu. For example, I typed in "Kakashi Hokage Candidate" in google, and the page I'm referencing is several rows down.

However, you can also attempt to refine your search by adding more to it. When typing in "Kakashi Hokage Candidate Jiraiya Tsunade" the page comes up on the first row.

Like with the jutsu, if these aspects fail, you're just going to have to figure out what arc/fight the statement was made in and work your way from there.

If all else fails, there's a in Naruto General Discussion where you can mention what you're looking for, and there will at least be one person out there capable of finding it for you.

Databook Definitions/Pages

One thing people often ask about is finding databook definitions or pages. Narutopedia will often offer summaries of what the databook might say, and reference the page in the databook that it is said, but rarely do you see the entire statement given in the databook.

Luckily, a couple of different websites have the translated text from the databook pages listed, and by typing in "JutsuName Databook", you will bring up several different references for it on googles main page, and in a lot of instances, you can often go over to the images section and see that a scan of it has been uploaded, such is the case for a technique like Raikiri:

You must be registered for see images

You can also find the text version of it in one of the links on the google search listings:

Type: Ninjutsu
User(s): Hatake Kakashi
Use: Attack
Range: Close
Rank: S

Black: In one swing, this swift stab turns into a famous blade that can even cut
lightning!!

Picture 1: Ending in a single point, this huge amount of chakra is a wonder even
to the eyes of the enemy!! It predicts a hopeles future.
Picture 2: Kakashi's "Chidori" cut lightning...that legend is the origin of the
name "Raikiri".

The one who is said to have copied over 1000 jutsu, Kakashi's single original
technique, this is "Raikiri"! Gai says that the true nature of this technique is
"a regular stab", but the amazing time when you see this huge amount of chakra
is gathered in the hand, Kakashi's arm becomes a famous blade that can cut
through anything.
Kakashi, named "Konoha's greatest technician", created this ultimate secret art
himself. It is really a simple technique perfected by honing it to the limit, an
artisan's technique.

Everything contained in the first 3 databooks, in text version, should be very easy for you to find with google. The 4th databook will eventually be completely posted as well, I'm sure, but as of now it's not.

The databooks 1 through 3 covers up to volume 43.

General Tips In Debating

- As a rule of thumb, keep an open mind. We all can and do get frustrated at times in debating, but the important thing to do is always try and understand the viewpoint of the person you're debating with. If both sides take that approach, you'll both likely have come out learning something, regardless of who won(if there was a winner period, covered in the next point) the debate.

Feeding on to that, if you come across someone who has posted something that you do view as completely wrong, take a teaching approach to it rather than a rude one. If you can help educate someone a certain subject, and you do it in a polite manner, that's only going to help towards improving the quality of debate on the forums.

- Learn how to agree to disagree. Not everything in this manga is necessarily fact. There are occurrences where you can both be looking at the same manga page or whatever the case may be and come to a different conclusion, and if through debating neither of your minds have been changed, that's not the end of the world. So long as you've both kept an open mind, agreeing to disagree is a fine way to end a debate, and is much better than debating in circles.

- Use panels/scans as frequently as possible. While for something such as "Naruto would use Kage Bunshin" may not need any scans to clear up the point, if you're referencing a relatively obscure statement or jutsu(or a jutsu being used in a certain way that isn't common), providing the scan or at least the chapter/page number it occurred will help speed up the debate process. It eliminates the posts of "where/when/how did this happen", and again helps educate others in a more efficient manner.

- When reading statements in this manga, particularly so in the databook, keep in mind that hyperbole does exist, keep in mind that retcons have happened, and keep in mind that often times, these characters are stating their opinion on a matter, and it's not always Kishimoto trying to state a fact himself. It's up to you as a reader to figure out which is which, and again agreeing to disagree can sometimes come in to play here, but just as you approach a debate with an open mind, approach reading the manga and the databooks with an open mind. Not everything is black and white.

Great insight. Tbh, I've stated before that I had no interest in debating seriously (which would entail posting manga scans, databook scans, etc.), but I would be lying if I said that I haven't been reading and analyzing the posts and styles of the experienced debaters here on this forum for my own benefit. I'm thinking that I'll probably give this thing a go to see how I do.

My policy: Accept that things are subjective, and there's a possibility, regardless of probability, that you're wrong. However, this doesn't work on things that are given facts, and it does make those who argue against the given facts in the manga wrong by default, such as some individuals who's names I either don't remember, or only suspect, said that KCM Naruto is not faster than Ay, or can't dodge amaterasu. For instance, I heavily disagree that JJ Madara has PS. However, it's subjective, and there's not that concrete of evidence on either side.

Know how your argument can be torn apart (subjective evidence), then research that point, and find a way to defend it.
