Why does half the crew get a hair change during the timeskip? Robin, Sanji, and Nami all keep the same hairstyle they had since they were kids before the timeskip, but during the time everyone's separated, they all suddenly decide to dramatically change it for no reason.

I understand that people change their hair but it doesn't really make sense for everyone to suddenly decide to change their looks at the same time. Robin gets rid of her bangs. Sanji's hair is shaggier/more unkempt and is on the other side of his face. Nami's is longer and wavy. Franky decides to get a buzzcut (but he can always get his old hair back with a touch of his nose).

It's not really an answerable question, but I guess I'm just curious about people's responses to this. I personally would've liked it if the crew's changes weren't all so different, but I realize that probably would've been boring. Some of the looks just kinda bother me. Especially Sanji's dark facial hair. The color makes no sense. And I liked Robin's bangs. U_U I'm sure I'll get used to it... (I like Usopp and Nami's new look, though. :D)

Aw man, I was gonna post a picture of what Sanji's goatee would look like blond, but I gotta have at least 10 posts. Oh well.

Sorry if I'm rambling. TL;DR: It doesn't really make sense for everyone to change their hair at the same time for (what I'm assuming) no reason when they've had the same hair since they were kids. I guess Sanji's reason could've been to look manlier in a land of crossdressers, but it doesn't really explain the change of hair... position. (Sorry, rambling again.)

What do you mean exactly because in my time we dress like to to show off the sportier outlook on life not why excercision became the nobility of any body's outlook. But sincerely quoted I don't think that the gaelic tribe knows how to handle their own children compared to how shady it is inside the east coast seventeen right now.

If you mean that I had more feminine hair then just ask why god sleeps with a virgin before he finds out he likes the size.

Nice trolling.

Just get used to it because this issue isn't an overt one. The only thing I abhor is Nami's indecent dress because of that I can't watch one piece episodes publicly at home.

I love Sanji's Dark goatee.

Anyway, if we look at this matter technically, all the characters were presented to us with a certain look. When we saw their background stories, they had to have some similarities with their current look, or else we wouldn't relate to their kid image. Meaning, if kid Nami didn't look like Teen Nami, we wouldn't be able to understand right away that we were looking at past Nami. Now, for a time-skip, it's the opposite. The Mangaka has to find away to mark the passing of the time on the characters. In this situation, the characters normally change in appearance, making them look older. That is why Past Characters look like Present Characters, but Future Characters look like neither.

Now, as to why some characters would change.

Luffy - Didn't change. I was expecting him to look manlier, but he didn't.

Zoro - Probably changed to look more like his sensei (Which we suppose to be Mihawk), to show respect or to show that his gold is still surpassing/taking Mihawk's place as the no1 Swordsman.

Nami - She has been a thief her whole life in order to save her town from Arlong. It would require a practical look, thus shorter hair, yet she still kep her figure very sexy, because a woman's attribute is good for that kind of business (personal experience xd). Now she is more free, she has a crew that loves her and she loves them back, she was allowed to have the hair as she wanted, long luxurious. Furthermore, she did spent 2 years in what we assume to be a fairly peaceful living, thus the longer hair.

Usopp - We all know why he changed. He finally made the effort to become strong, and thus now he is Mansopp!

Sanji - Probably had a change of heart, having found his maiden spirit. That kind of stuff changes a man, and it translated in reversing his bang. The goatee was just to show he is manlier, in fact, he was already trying to grow a goatee, if you look back on the pictures.

Chopper - He didn't change much, but I think his transformations went through puberty, since he is now much bigger. Of course, he improved his strength and his medicine strengths, so it is not all that surprising that he is super big now.

Robin - Similar to Nami, she lived a life on the run, and so her look, although sexy to subdue man to her wishes, had to be fairly discrete and dark, thus the short hair and the practical clothes (pants and jackets). Now she found the crew and feels happy and free. She grew her hair and while she still keeps some objects of discretion, like the sunglasses, she is now more willing to wear tops and skirts.

Franky - Like you said, he still kept his old hair, but he must have found some mechanism on Dr Vegapunk's lair that allowed him to built this hair change machine. The more fun and entertaining gadgets he could built on himself the better, don't you think? It's just so Franky-like to do that.

Brook - He became a freakin' rockstar. That requires some change in wardrobe.

OP, by some chance are you from LJ? Your posting style seems to have come from there.

Anyway, I second what Lili-Chwan said.

Nah, I just wanted to have an excuse to post here. Or maybe not.

Makes sense. I would've liked it if the changes weren't too different, though, but that's just a personal preference. Everyone else seems to love the changes. And Sanji's goatee color really bothers me because of the color. Why is it dark brown if his hair's blond?

Nope. I'm not really familiar with LJ, really. Is there some kind of specific writing style there or something?
