Interesting. I do find something like this creepy. Looking at pictures or family movies of loved ones who have passed is one thing, but creating a figure in their likeness just seems a bit odd to me; nothing against that part of their culture though.

This actually reminds me of Isla de las Muñecas near Mexico City. The sole inhabitant of the island discovered the body of a young girl who had drowned in the river, and soon after saw a doll floating by. To appease the spirit of the girl, he began to hang parts of dolls found in the river on tree branches and continued to do so for several decades. Eventually it was turned into a tourist attraction. It's certainly one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. Links below if you're interested:
