He's already kinda dead. He was doing what Hagoromo did and visited bolt in his mind and seemed to give him a seal like Hagoromo did to Naruto and Sasuke.

ALso even if he did freeze time he doesn't look like his new form so its a ghost and second sasuke saw the whole thing with his rinnegan and likely could have done something if Momoshiki tried to kill bolt.

Eh I don't think he visited bolt in his mind. I mean, Boruto tried to alarm his presence, yet Naruto and Sasuke stood motionless, despite the fact they were having a conversation seconds ago. Then when Momo dispersed, Naruto continued his conversation, almost as if time hadn't passed.

Well his eyes allow him to see changes of chakra flow so he could tell something was up but not in detail know what's going on
