The situation that Obito is in seems to open up a spot for another major villain to appear.

Surely now is the time for Orochimaru to make a major statement as the final villain, once Madara is taken care of?

Surely, all of these events have happened for a reason? :
a) Oro is revived
b) Oro gets his hands back - and so can now access his full range of jutsu and forbidden jutsu
c) Oro absorbs Kabuto's knowledge and power
d) Oro has a Zetsu body (and presumably all of the abilities that come with it)
e) Oro has Senju cells
f) Oro has control over the Hokages (apart from Hashirama)

Oro was the first major villain - we had a taste of what he could do - but often in a weakened state. Now it is time for things to come full circle. Anything less would make the Orochimaru character feel wasted.
Whether it happens now, or later, it doesn't matter. As long as something happens. As long as we get a final resolution to this character.

I'm not going to tell myself Orochimaru is going to do something.
Is it possible Orochimaru is planning something? Of course. But I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.

I agree with every single thing you said. Including how Orochimaru's role and strength has been portrayed throughout the manga. I think Madara will step up first. Once Madara is out of the picture, it will be Orochimaru's turn and he'll be the final villain.

A)Orochimaru did not absorb kabuto's powers he took back his chakra and has all his knowledge because he was watching everything going on from inside him.

B)Of course he has all zetsu's powers that is the point of taking someone else's body,so he can use their powers.
Which include;Mokuton,Chakra replication, becoming one with the earth and reappearing in other places for means of fast travel.

C) Orochimaru is not going to become the final villain.
He was knows what kabuto knows because he experienced everything he experienced the good and the bad.
This also means he was caught within izanami and had time to rethink on all his previous actions.
This is precisely why he has decided to watch the "New Wind" blow.

His character is not being wasted. You just don't seem to understand what is going on with his character.

Actually, him being the first major villain is exactly why I din't think he will be the final one. That never happens in this kind of manga.
After some more or less minor villains, there is always a strong villain, that, if the series would end after him, couls possibly be the final one, but after him, the series gets wider and the real antagonist is introduced more and more.

This sound plausible, but if this happens, we'll get a big extension to the series and another arc or two... So I doubt it's happening, Orochimaru won't act as a villain anymore, that's what I think.
