i don't think the jutsu was a total failure...
just read this carefully...
First madara destroys a few hands
Kyuubi TBB destroys even more hands, but still a few hundred fists would hit
Resulting in that the jutsu hitting so hard that 1/3 of the susanoo was removed from kyuubi
Madara in chock, because....
name something else that broke through susanoo!?
** anything against sasuke susanoo in the first week doesn't count cuz he was noob at using it (if there is anything) **

okay sure, it wasn't as good as everyone expected...
but it wasn't a total failure
because it somehow removed 1/3 of Susanoo armor!
