What is your thoughts on this filler arc? As of this post we are on the 2nd day of the 2nd exam (Demon Desert).
I recommend episode 401 (Lee vs Shira) if you haven't followed this arc. 402 is easily the worst in terms of everything.
My thoughts are mixed, I got excited because the exams were one of the best arcs in the original Naruto anime. Though, they decided to put this arc in the middle of an important part of a fight, which is messed up. First few episodes were mediocre since its just everyone preparing, then the writing test was better than the original one. Then comes the demon desert, I was expecting sand monsters and crabs, but can't expect much in an filler arc. It's kinda like the original with the 2 scrolls, going for a few days. The teams are only a little bit interesting, first team was Team Guy vs Team Shira, I was okay with this team, There's some creepy eyed girl with a useless ability to see off droplets? (What?) And with a big weakness (flashing lights), then a cactus genjutsu girl pretty neat but all you have to do is release it. Shira was the only good one, fighting was on par with Lee, not flinching against Neji's 64 palm (filler BS), a copy of Lee's eight inner gates. The fight Lee vs Shira is one of the highlights for this arc. Then currently there's a Grass team vs Team 8, so far minus how that episode was horrible, fat guy somehow has kunais in his fat, trolls, uses belching? to knock people out with the smell...Worst character ever. Kid with glasses, can dig, summon and mole that digs, alright character. Elvis controls wind? Anyway so far it's been alright very big flaws here and there, but not terrible. I'm sure it will get better when Akatsuki arrives.
Pros:
Shows how everyone gets to be chunin.
Shows new interesting characters.
How pain gets the animal path's body.
Fuu gets taken.
Cons:
There's more terrible animation than great animation
The pacing is very slllloooowwww, taking 3 episodes for a fight.
