Been a while since I've made a serious thread, so here goes.

A lot of the complaints about the last chapter were to do with Sasuke's new goal, and how it was very abrupt and even rushed of which I agree, but it isn't nearly as abrupt as people are making out. This change started in chapter 590 when this happened. It also essentially nullified everything said at the Samurai Bridge, but I'll save that for another day

In the previous chapter, Sasuke rambles on about how he won't change whatever Itachi says, and his hatred for Konoha grows more, but at the end of this chapter Itachi basically throws down the gauntlet for Sasuke

He wanted Sasuke to change things. Two key themes in this war have been the meaning of Shinobi and peace, both of these being explored through Sasuke and Naruto. Sasuke asked this question in when he first started for the ones who know everything. There are several key quotes when it comes to defining shinobi

Shinobi endure to achieve their goals. Sasuke saw how much Itachi had to endure, and what the village meant, his love for his brother superseded his hatred for the village, depending on their goals they change, which is exactly what Sasuke has done. He refuses to let his brother's sacrifice go to waste and instead wants to protect it, and even change it, he doesn't love the village, he acknowldeges it is screwed up an wants to change it for his brother and his clan's sake. He has chosen to endure the pain of losing his clan in order to change the village as a true shinobi.

This change is also important plot wise. I previously ruled out Sasuke as the representation of the elder son because he didn't care about peace. But now, I believe he is the perfect example of the elder son's ideals, not to say he is evil, but he has conflicting ideologies about peace, one of the other key points about the war. What I though was essentially defining plot wise was this page here

Sasuke wants to change the village so this stuff never happens again, but is prepared to do it without caring about the people of the village's opinion ie. he wants to create peace by might. Naruto is the opposite and wants to be acknowledged by the village and become Hokage, that was always what he wanted although he has matured and nowt wants it in the opposite order to before ie. peace though love, further setting up Naruto and Sasuke's final confrontation. That's why I think that Naruto and Sasuke represent the younger and elder son better than Hashi and Madara, because they are essentially two sides of the same coin, even more so now. Although I think the sage will return I don't think he will interact with them both as he has already made his choice (Younger son). Naruto will try to make Sasuke understand what it truly is to be Hokage, and that is what their final fight will be about.

Thanks for reading if you did, I'll probably have another thread on Minato and KCM later on so look out for that and give me your thoughts on the thread and Sasuke's change overall.

Very good work man! Nice to see at least some people can see depth instead of looking at the surface. Of course, simpletons may not see it the way you do.

Before this it was like even if he wanted to return to Konoha, he couldn't because he had already chosen the dark path and knew he couldn't be accepted.
He had chosen the hatred and as he realized he couldn't return the hatred would grow, and it did. And this would result in the Sasuke that was established, not as evil, but broken and
desperately trying to sate his hatred by killing the elders. This was before. But now suddenly, Sasuke stopped being Sasuke and started being Itachi.
Sasuke as the antagonist was very good because I could still feel with him. But now he just suddenly gives up his hatred and wants the same thing as Naruto. He wasn't supposed to be like this. His hatred
had changed him, making him selfish and now he wants to be hokage. It's just not believable.

This shift was certainly not needed. A fight between bloodlusted, out for revenge Sasuke and the pure Naruto would have been so much more
rewarding to watch rather than fighting over who is to become hokage and it was what I had expected ever since part 2 and I think many
and that's why many are disappointed.

That's the thing, no one said he didn't still hate Konoha, he still does, but he doesn't want to spit on his brother's sacrifice and destroy it, rather, he wants to change it. The diving into darkness phase made him seem a bit ungrateful, and his logic didn't quite make sense. I think the fight makes more sense from a story telling standpoint, it is the same fight between the Elder and younger son and a clash of ideologies we've seen foreshadowed since the Land of Iron, rather than just a fight to protect the village which wouldn't hold as much weight.

Nice thread...
But I personally didn't like the way Sasuke changed..
It was a bit too hasty...

It shows a contras Between Sasuke and Naruto's personalities. Sasuke personality keeps changing like the weather. Unpredictable alway changing. Naruto is steady unchanging, predictable.

It was... shocking. Lol - I had to reread that panel a few times before it finally sunk in. It seems strange, a little insane and I can't fully believe he's serious... but yeah, whatever. We'll see how it plays out.

He'd be better suited for taking on Danzo's former role, don't you think? They'd both make poor Hokage - tbh. Naruto slightly less so.
So, Naruto has Hokage - let him deal with the usual happy, unicorns and rainbows crap.
Sasuke in charge of the ANBU/Root side - let him have the assassinations, torture and darker aspect of running a village.

I imagine Itachi is what ties Sasuke to Konoha - his desire (if it's true) to protect it, as his legacy so his sacrifice wasn't in vain.
... pity, otherwise I'd suggest Sasuke would do better to take over another village or create his own. Like Oto or Ame.
