It's obvious that Madara is OP atm . We're about to see gai become a suicidal maniac. We know that gai can't solo Madara, so that leaves 2 options does his death trigger an emotional wake that ignites the will of the fire in others or does it create an opportunity for others to attack and maybe distract Madara long enough for plot to forward. We can't have another single super being but a super pair is possible.

My personal thoughts are
Gai attacks makes Madara go defensive.
Obito and kakashi team and attack.
Lee mourns over Gai.
While madara fights obito amd kakashi (which both die as was foreshadowed by kakashi telling obito proud to have my last stand beside you).
Sasuke and naruto are revived.
New super pair with new powers been sasuke and naruto.
Shinobi world help these 2 somehow to defeat madara.

I Wouldn't say Gai would die, most likely his 8 Gates will be postponed as he wont need to use it once Naruto & Sasuke Comes.

Be a poor war arc if no big names plop it. Already seen the kages survive. Perfect opportunity to have a respected death. Be a shame to waste it even if a death isn't good.

Wait I don't get it you said gai can't solo madara but you said gai makes madara go on the defence

He can't defeat madara but he can make him do defensive manoeuvres. To hype the 8th gate and make it irrelevant would be poor writing. I think it will be effective but gai can't sustain it.

logic says if gai goes 8 gates he will die....if so then i will be pissed...becuz kakashi and sakure shouldve died in 1st place...there's no logic in this manga...the mangaka just care about money,he doesn't value his art....this whole shinobi war arc is so boring, with so many repetitive scenes and plots...who in the hellll would belive that kabuto and obito are joining naruto's side now?...im mean seioursly what kind of bullcraap is datt...
