Maybe Susanoo came as a surprise, but it was to be expected that Kakashi would get some MAJOR boost, either on his own, or by reclaiming his MS.
Why? Because in recent chapters it was spoken a lot that Kakashi... well, sucks. Sasuke downplayed him, Kakashi downplayed himself, then he also failed in what he wanted to accomplish (protect Sasuke), then he spoke about being useless some more...
My point is, this is shonen manga. No major character apart from Sakura can just whine about being weak and STAY weak. The fact that Kakashi's weakness was emphasized so much lately was suspicious and thus, it was perfectly expected that he would receive a power-up. U_U
