This question about Luffy

So lets get to it, those who read One Piece might have questioned this.
At Alabasta, Luffy says Vivi can´t save everyone but in Fishman Island arc when Noah is about to destroy the island he says he will save everyone.

Some might view it as hypocrisy but here is my answer.

To me, it could be simply because he believe after the two years that he had the strength to protect it and that nothing could stop the war of the rebels in Alabasta. Even if he was strong enough back then, he couldn´t stop the years upon years of suffering and hatred which eventually caused it.

That is my take on it, what do you guys think?

Yeah I agree, after those two years of training he has the power to save the people and more importantly protect his nakama.

Well yeah the difference in power of himself and her is quite different especially after the time skip, so he is allowed to change his views.

His powers aren't what defines him, his personality is. He will act dumb and insult people during fights, when they get angry and tell him to get serious, he'll reply that he is serious.
He also asks if mermaids can poop.. His stupidity if what defines him... it's a trait he never gets rid of, even in the middle of a life and death fight.. Naruto is only goofy around his friends, Luffy is always goofy.

But he doesn´t always act goofy, he does indeed get serious during fights, sure he´s always serious but i mean dead serious when he´s in a fight, you know...when he gets that look.
Also, luffy is probably the only character i know who can be badass while dumb.xd

Well, I think what Luffy was telling Vivi is, she's dumb if she doesn't accept the possibility of people dying. In this scenario, Luffy acknowledges this possibility, but intends to prevent it.
