Hunter x Hunter plot details:
1. People from a certain clan have special eyes, which turn red whenever they are really angry/emotionally riled up. One of the main characters is the only surviving member of that clan; everyone else was killed in an attack by members of the "Phantom Troupe", a group of powerful hunters that do evil/nefarious jobs (Akatsuki) . He vowed to do whatever necessary to get revenge on this group, and he successfully obtained great power to further his ambitions. This led him to fight one of the most powerful members of the Phantom Troupe, and he won. I haven't seen all the episodes yet, but currently the troupe is trying to get him to join.
2. At the beginning of the series, there was a hunter exam. This required an aptitude test beforehand. The second to last stage is as follows:
Second to last stage of the Chuunin exam-
The final stage involved 1 vs. 1 battles (so did the last stage of the chuunin exam). In this time one of the main characters (and the protagonist's best friend), Killua, is influenced to kill by his brother. He then leaves under his own volition, towards a life where he is surrounded by death and has no friends. The protagonist then goes after him, because Killua was his first friend and he refused to abandon him to his fate. It is also learned at this time that the protagonist was Killua's first friend as well.
Later on in the story, Killua learns an attack where he wields lightning on his arm (chidori).
