Boruto is one of the top academy students, and although he does not really take the classes seriously. He seems to always find a way to come out on-top. This is what ultimately sets up Boruto's mindset to failure in the future. Boruto is able to always perform well, no matter what, without having to put in maximum effort. This is why he doesn't think studying is that important anymore, nor training. This will also apply to how Boruto will continue his 'do things a faster way instead of the right way' stigma.

Basically what I said before spoken by the character himself. One thing I really like, is how the story of Naruto started off introducing Naruto as a boy who made terrible grades, was horrible in school, yet had a dream (a purpose in life). Whereas this series shows Boruto making top scores, one of the best academy students there, but he has no purpose in life at all.

My favorite aspect of this episode is Boruto's conflict with his future, and his surprise to everyone wanting to be a ninja. As he doesn't quite understand. This is great. Boruto is undecided of his future, which makes him realistic. I always hated the idea of having some type of world renown goal at a young age without going through anything significant. This makes his future development important, as he's just lazying around.

This is even more important here when Boruto asks himself, why is he becoming a shinobi in the first place? This self reflection paints Boruto in a better light in comparison to his classmates who are just accepting of their roles in terms of being ninjas. While he's actually trying to understand his place in all of this.

These attributes make his character more than one dimensional. Combining that with the fact that he has actual flaws, which you can't say the same for anyone else yet.

Like Shino muttered. Boruto's idea of lazying around and not putting much effort into the future, is what is going to set himself up for doom. It's a great foreshadowing to what's to come. The reason why he'll face ridicule is because he's able to get away with this, for now.

Well apparently the person in charge of this episode was the Boruto the movie novel writer.

Makes sense also why we had three scenes talking about Boruto being a prodigy.

Nice thread. Boruto is seemingly to be the only person who's been conflicted dealing with his internal struggles which fits the progression nicely. I feel like the problem is that most of the academy students have already been settled with their determination to become shinobi without the surrounding of their flaws.

For example, I feel like the issues I have with Sarada is that her character growth and her aspiration to become hokage Climax way too early and because of that she doesn't have much room to grow. Even when she started to doubted herself when she believe she has no place to help Wasabi and Namida; with Boruto advice it only lasted for momentarily.

This is more or less the same problem I have with Konoha11. Their time have ended at the end of P1 which is why they stop developing. which undermines their value. I feared same could apply to most of the academy.

What completely sets them apart is that Boruto Flaws is more Grounded and that adds more layer to his character which benefits him in the Long-Term. This brings to my next point. The writers have definitely done a good job to flesh out the story thanks in part for choosing a Slice of Life format that allows the viewer to understand the flow of the narration without feeling overwhelmed.

I agree. I feel like she isn't missing anything other than expansion on her abilities.

I hope this isn't the case either.

As always Indra, amazing thread.

I'm sharing the same opinion, I think Studio Pierrot did a decent job in that regard. Hopefully the movie rehash is coming soon.

Nice thread. They made boruto character close with his character in the movie / manga. Actually I was worried about boruto in anime at begin because he look like different person in the movie.
I realy really like his character in the movie

Hmm very true, I starting to think that the power boruto is going to get, and his conflict with even wanting to be a shinobi, will be a big part of the plot and his character, although I guess it’s becoming more obvious anyhow

Didn't I say it seemed fillerish, now you understand why.
I don't see anything wrong with it. Idc if it's canon or not.

Just talking about the part where it stands in the narrative of the story. They did a good job to make Boruto be more like himself when the Movie adaption hits. Tho we still have some time b4 then
