I don't think it will be based on actual mythology outside of japan, or do you have a source that suggests otherwise?

Kishimoto likes adding references to many different things, like Deidara's bombs and catchphrases were inspired by Japanese artist Taro Okamoto. Okamoto came up with the "art is an explosion" and his work served as an inspiration of Deidara's moves. Even Kakuzu attacks were named after mechs from Mobile Suit Gundam. He uses more than just myths.
