Maybe the elder sons eyes are an evolved rinnegan? So6p never had anyone to challenge him due to his godlike status as the 10 tails host, like the 2 sons did. Maybe it never developed it too an evolved status due to that? Like sharingan>Ems, It could be that it's Sharingan>EMS>Rinnegan>Elder sons eyes? who knows but kishi...in a way i can see it kinda being foreshadowed, the next generation is supposed to pass the current right?
