Good news, Spider-Fans! Or, at least, the beginnings of it...

An enterprising fan of the Marvel universe, Josh Pendarvis, has started a petition on Change.org - one that could, with a bit of luck, set in motion the process of getting Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Specifically, it asks Sony to reconsider their position - recently revealed by leaks - of keeping Spider-Man out of the MCU, despite the revelation that they were, until recently at least, in talks with Marvel over having Spider-Man appear in Captain America: Civil War. As Pendarvis puts it in the petition:

"Sony recently declined the opportunity to include Spiderman in the upcoming civil war movie, in which he plays a major role, and in a new franchise in which Sony would have distribution rights and creative input. This is a petition to try and attempt to show Sony how much the fans care and want a change."
Which, aside from being a pretty noble and lofty goal (at least from the perspective of comic-book geekdom), is also potentially incredibly well timed.

It's now looking as though Sony may not actually have pulled out of talks with Marvel after all - in which case any kind of concerted fan push - particularly one in the form of a petition like this - might actually stand a chance of changing the minds of some Sony execs.

So, if you're desperate to see Spider-Man join Cap, Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers gang in the MCU, this petition right here might just be your best chance to help.

Marvel Wants A Fresh Start With 'Spider-Man' Without Andrew Garfield

We previously reported on the potential deal between Marvel and Sony to share the rights to Spider-Man at a 60/40 split, and that deal seems to be the one that will potentially be jump-started if Sony Pictures Entertainment continues to stumble in their handling of the Spider-Man franchise.

Sony is understandably preoccupied with the consequences of a massive hack that includes leaked films, downed intranet services and the leak of documents and e-mails, but should this deal move forward, we've learned some more details about what Spider-Man's potential return to Marvel would entail.

The 60/40 split still looks to be the divide with Sony handling distribution. However, Marvel's not inclined to give Sony creative control over the character, nor planning on honoring the contracts with Sony's Spider-Stars. More poking into the origins of the Aunt May solo film and Female Spider movie rumors revealed that these were actual Sony Picture Entertainment plans that Marvel knew about and severely disliked. Now that Marvel can have the rights to the character back, they plan to wipe the slate with the Amazing Spider-Man universe.

IF the Marvel/Sony deal were to go forward, Andrew Garfield would no longer be Peter Parker and any baggage from existing films, Raimi or Webb, would be non-canonical, Marvel doesn't want any part of those films. The idea is that the Spider-Man romance movie has been played out over five installments, so any new Spider-Man films would focus on the difficulties of being a teenager and a superhero with a romance side-story, not the film's focus. Marvel also thinks that the origin story is well-trodden territory, so any Spider-Man movies under this deal would begin with Peter Parker already leading a dual life. Spider-Man making his debut in Captain America: Civil War is still a distinct possibility and would serve as the character's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as of now Spider-Man will NOT be in Civil War. I was told that they have a script nailed down.

Listen up people !!!!

Marvel has reached out to sony offering varying degrees of cooperation with spiderman so well all know they are willing to do it.

Sony employess through leaked documents have already expressed extreme dislike for amazing spider man as well as the big heads of sony at their HQ in japan.

Combine this with marvel outwardly speaking of plans to stitch him back in the mcu and we don't just have a petty petition that lives in fantasy land !!!!!

Its up to us to show sony that we want this to happen hurry up and sign this petition so we can make the mcu whole

Thank you for this thread.

Sony are @$$holes and need to grow a pair. They could make serious £££ from spiderman in the marvel series.

They are almost like a spoilt child who wont share there toys.
