There must be a downside to that technique.

Why you ask?
Well Hashirama wanted to end his fight against Madara because he wanted to help the Fodder Allience against Obito.
He told Madara to stop but he kept on going. That would've been a good moment to take out Shinsuusenju to deal with Madara and after that he could go back to the fodder alliance. Why wouldn't he do it? He is an Edo and he is already in Sennin Modo.
Well my guess is that Shinsuusenju was a jutsu he only could use once. When he made up his mind to finish Madara off he used it, and he probably can't use it anymore.
What other reason could there bee that he still didn't bring it out?o

Probably didn't want to hurt the alliance in the crossfire due to its sheer size. I highly doubt that he can only use it once.

Its too big, Hashirama wouldn't have any room to move. Or, it needs nature energy to physically move the summon. Cause i don't think its a living summon.

Nah, I don't think that would be the reason. He and madara are fighting a big distance away from the allience.

Well size surely is important. Just look at Tsunade and Sakura who despite a 3years chakra conserving Byakugou could only summon 1/10 of Katsuyu, so i'm pretty sure that something this size should take a huge amount of chakra to Hashirama and it's really doubtful that even with his chakra reserve, he can summon it many times

The reason is pretty simple. Kishi doesnt feel like drawing it since it likely takes him hours of drawing just to draw all those hands...
