We've seen from the Saskue vs Itachi fight that Orochimaru has placed his charka in several individuals as a infusion of the combo of Jugo's curse mark and Orochimaru's chakra in order to safeguard if he was ever killed. He was a really smart guy and was prepared for anything thrown at him, he himself knew that it was possible for him to do and because of that much like Edo Itachi and kotomatsuki where he always had a back up plan just in case things didn't necessarily go to plan.
So he planted this curse mark in several individuals to have several vessels to take over in case he died and needed someone to take over and be reborn.
This could possibly explain why Orochimaru never had a curse mark and his excuse was his body couldn't absorb chakra from nature but the real reason is there is no point in him taking over his own dead body Lol.
The Key part of this thread:
The Curse mark was never a one motive experiment Orochimaru was double dealing, give them this great power which could turn the tables in a losing fight for the untold cost of becoming a potenal vessel for orochimaru in case he ever died.
