So I had this idea that could be completely false, but I decided to share it and see what you guys think of it anyway. I am sorry if something similar has been suggested before, I personally did not see such threads.

So Madara stated himself that he can't move away from the Gedo Mazou statue, because it is the only thing sustaining him alive at this stage.

By all logic he should be dead, as Obito states himself, saying that Madara Uchiha was from a faraway-era. In fact, Madara too calls himself a "ghost" of the Uchiha.

Throughout the whole conversation he speaks as if he is just a shell for the man who used to be Madara Uchiha once. A shell sustained by chakra alone. So here's my theory:

I believe Madara Uchiha actually died all those years ago, when he was still young.

He is dead and the only reason his soul remained in this realm was because it was attached to the shell of his body, sustained by the chakra from the Gedo. In a way, just as you would attach a soul to someone else's body with Edo Tensei. Unfortunately I cannot explain how he did this, but come on, it's Madara Uchiha that we speak of, the only person who broke free of Edo Tensei and whose ass Kishi keeps kissing by giving him OP technique after OP technique.

So, if I am even remotely right and if Madara actually died when he was young, it would make sense that he is brought back with Edo Tensei in the state in which his body was when he really died - years and years ago when he was still handsome and menacing looking.

What do you guys think?

It's because Kabuto brought him back special. It was all Kabuto's doing.

No..it's like saying hashirama ''should have'' died in a car accident in his prime but he survived and died of old age so that's why he's rezzed in his prime, it doesn't make sense man, either you're dead or you're alive. And Kabuto made ressurected him that way.

I don't know, maybe. I'm not really following your logic, but there has to be a reason for the young Edo Madara. I read someones theory on this that I kinda liked: Madara survived his battle w/ Hashirama by doing a Muu split, one half died & was buried, the other half lived and became old Madara. This explains why there was a body to bury after the Hashi fight, why old Madara didn't have much strength, & why Edo Madara is young. But who knows, maybe you're right.

Nice theory. Don't forget Itachi broke out from Edo Tensei as well with the Kotoamatsukami he left with Naruto.

also madara said "he awakened the rinnegan shortly before his death", which means he was supposed to be dead during the 2nd war but yet still was alive during the 3rd war

i think he been considering himself as a dead person, since he gave Nagato the rinnegan

nice theory but you`re forgetting madara said he awakened the rinnegan shortly before dying so if your theory would be correct then madara, being revived in his young form via edo tensei wouldnt have rinnegan, but then again kabuto could just somehow implement it in him just like senju DNA so you could be right

Nice here is another thought as to the importance of Madara being young.

Izuna was Madara's Younger brother, and now with Izuna gone, Sasuke can come to resemble Izuna

Both Sasuke and Madara are now at their "prime state", so this could be a nice reunion with Madara questioning Sasuke when they meet
Madara is yet to personally meet the "last" Uchiha, Sasuke, can't wait til that happens

Madara already said his normal life span ended when he was an old man, then he summoned the Gedo and continued to live off of its chakra, and Kabuto brought him back like that cause of his modifications.

Kabuto clearly stated that he made Madara 'special'

He's even stronger than he was in his prime.
Anyway if he really died at young age how did his ghost age?

Good theory ;) I want to add that Kabuto also helped to upgrade him with mokuton in order to make him stronger than he was in his prime and it turned out to be a successful attempt because now Madara is almost like the so6ps even though he lacks the "Yin" side.
