The Uzumaki clan weather they were Hagoromo's brothers decedents, or the decedents of Ashura matters not. I personally think the Uzumaki clan split off from the other relative because they didn't want to be involved in the wars, and they weren't actually shinobi, but rather carried on and believed in Ninshū, the religion, as apposed to Ninjutsu which was created for wars.
As you can see in both links below, Hagaromo's stance, with his arms folded in his sleeves, which ironically enough is the same stance the Uzumaki clan showed to use, they don't look like fighters, more of a religious peaceful clan and Ninshū was a religion.

They took more into Fūinjutsu than any other "Shinobi" art, could the real reason be that they didn't want part in the wars, that the Fūinjutsu was just to protect themselves, and was part of Ninshū? Hagoromo and his brother did use fūinjutsu to seal the Juubi after all, so it wasn't created for wars like Ninjutsu.
