INTRO
"You can skip this part and go directly to the theory below"
The story of the Sage has been told in different light. His legend and feats were unbelievable that some thought he was just a myth, and a bed time story. It was told that he had sealed the ten tailed beast, a force of nature, inside himself, and by doing so, harnessed the power of God. The world worshiped him and followed him, and by his teachings, birthed the shinobi ways.
The mark of his power was the Rinnegan, the eye that combines the light and the dark, the power of creation. The origin of the Rinnegan is unclear. Some say it's a mutation, some says it appears to a chosen one at times of despair.
But let's look at the man who was able to unlock the power of a God. Uchiha Madara, regarded in legend as the greatest of his clan. The only man in his era who went toe to toe against Hashirama, the God of Shinobi. After his defeat at the Valley of End, he managed to survive and hid on the shadows, but not without a souvenir. He managed to possess an essence of Hashirama's power. Hashirama's body is a powerful life energy, he is the epitome of the Senju bloodline, and by implanting it in him gave him longevity.
But doing so not only gave him long life span, before his death he unlocked a dormant power. A power only achievable by those who inherited the Sage's bloodline, the Rinnegan. The Sage passed his powers into his disciples the brothers who are ancestors of the Senju and Uchiha. The elder brother inherited the eye and the spiritual power of the Sage while the younger brother inherited the body and life force. By bringing the essence of the two bloodlines together brings back the power of the Sage.
THE QUESTION
Strangely enough, the Sharingan, the mark of Uchiha's power and inheritance; and the Mokuton, the maifestation of the ultimate Senju's power, resembles the Body and Eyes of the Juubi. The Juubi's body is made up of like a plant like materials. The Juubi's eye look's alot like the sharingan, with it's red color and tomoe in it's pupil. Plus the complete Juubi's eye has 6 ripples like the Rinnegan.
This begs the question, does the Rinnegan comes from the Juubi? This has been debated countless times. How and why the Sage possess the Rinnegan. Did the Sgae had the Rinnegan before becoming the Jinchuuriki or after it?
Based on evidence, it only requires the Sage's bloodline to unlock the Rinnegan, but why does it looks completely like the Juubi's eye? Could it be just pure coincidence?
I think not. There is obvious relation between the Rinnegan and the Juubi.
THE THEORY
The popular theory was the Sage gained the eye after becoming the Juubi's Jink. But if this is true, shouldn't Obito already have both Rinnegan eyes. Although this is arguable given that he sealed an incomplete Juubi, but since his body went under severe transformation, a manifestation through the eyes should have been an initial change.
Now looking back at what Jiraiya told about the Rinnegan's legend. The eyes manifest in times of great despair.
What if this myth actually holds some truth? Afterall legends ring with truth.
Now this might sound a far fetched idea but hear me.
We do not know yet if the Juubi actually had consciousness, but let's say what if he had.
The old world was engulfed in war, people fighting everywhere, there was only chaos. The Juubi being the nature itself on his peaceful sleep awakened and decided to take actions to protect the world. He saw that humankind need guidance, and for that duty created the Sage of Six Paths.
For him to complete the task, the Juubi gave his creation, a portion of his power, the Rinnegan, and also his will, leaving the Juubi without consciousness. The Juubi is only to appear again if the Sage failed on his mission, with only one purpose, to annihilate mankind altogether. The Sage traveled the world, to preach and guide his ways. All are going well but he made one mistake. He taught men to access their power, he taught them Ninjutsu.
And so the shinobi was born. As time pass, men became greedy and wanted more power. They killed and stole against each other, just like the past shinobi wars.
The chaos triggered the awakening of the Juubi, with the sole purpose of annihilating mankind and restart creation once again. But the Sage saw that man deserves a chance, and is still worth protecting. So he battled the Juubi and sealed it inside himself.
The Sage entrusted his two disciples/sons the search for true peace. And in his death bed divided the Juubi into nine Bijuus, only to be brought back again together in the right time by the one who will carry his will and fulfill his promise of peace, to his creator, the Juubi.
