SAND STYLE-

USER-GARA

ADVANTAGES-
1.better protection
2.better attacking possibilities
3.long lasting

DISADVANTAGES-
1.requires more chakra
2.no sensing abilities,only tracking(GARA'S EYE technique)
3.use less in front of water style[oil splly] attacks

INSECT STYLE-

USER-SHINO

ADVANTAGES-
1.better for tracking
2.better sensing options
3.the insects can be evolved during each attack[if survive]


DISADVANTAGES-
1.drains more chakra
2.use less in front of fire style,water style attacks...etc

CONCLUSION-

both the types can be used in same ways.
and comparing the advantages and disadvantages

sand seems to have much more diversity and is better defence and offence not to mention it allows gaara to fly...

Insects are far more versatile and useful in an array of situations.
As far as defense goes, then sand is better.

Yea I would say bugs because it will come down to physics at the end of this battle & there are Alot of small bugs that we can't see & some can slip threw sand.
Also, Shino is very skilled in Taijutsu (if your suggesting to Shino).
I only see Gaara use sand to fight.
