Has any body ever wondered why the Sage of the Six Paths was called a Sage? I was wondering if there could make a connection to sage mode. The Sage received his yin power from his eyes. Maybe sage mode is what gave him his yang strength. Maybe sage mode just has to be mastered like the sharringan. Maybe Naruto needs some Uchiha blood. Although im not sure why frogs know it.... Completely theory.

I was going to make this theory but nagato got the rennigan and wasnt called a sage .they is definately a connection of the title sage and sagemode .what is said about nagato was he had the sages eyes and the 6 path of pain why didnt he call himself so6p of pain. We cant say the so6p was called a sage because he was super powerful, Or because he beat the ten tails. The other main point is only jairaya is the 2nd human sage after so6p i.e (pervy sage) and they said that naruto was now a sage, it sounded more like a title than a technique mastering thing.

narutos not probably get as stronger as SO6P but he can come close to it by sealing the tailed beasts which will give him massive chakra reserves...and he cannnot use uchicha blood to attain his eye dojutsu as of now but there is one probability during his fox sage mode transformation ...no one knows what that power has to offer...his eyes look evil in that mode

My logic is that a sage is anyone who has mastered an art-form.since Jiraiya and naruto mastered the toad style they were called toad sages similarly The sage of six paths had mastered the arts all the six paths so he was called a sage....

personally i think sage is another word for hermit, the so6p was a wandering priest...
Jiraiya was the Toad Sage because he had mastered sage mode. but naruto also called him Pervy Sage or Perverted Hermit.
a sage is just a title, i don't think there is any connection with toads tbh. although kishi may have intended to make naruto another sage and is so droppping hints with sage mode

Sage of Six Paths has a Buddhist meaning to it.
Basically, in Buddhism, the belief is that you are trapped in a reincarnation cycle untill you find true enlightment and put aside your desires.
This cycle consists of 6 realms (fun fact; Nagato chose the names of these realms for his Six Peins).
Those realms rank from 1 to 6 from good to bad. Realm 1 (Naraka in Hindu, Jigoku in Japanese) is the worst and realm 6 (Deva in Hindu, Ten in Japanese) is the best. You get reincarnated into one of the realms depending on how good of a person you are.
Once you master true serenity, you are excluded from this cycle.
The name Rikudo Sennin (六道仙人) literally means Sage of Six Paths.
Roku (六) - Six
Do (道) - Way, path, teaching
Sen (仙) - Sage, hermit
Nin (人) - Person
Sennin (仙人) in English, translates to hermit, sage. Hermit or sage means one who has left aside all wordly things, one retired from society for religious reasons or in this manga's case; training.
In Naruto and Jiraiya's case, the title sennin means that they left society in order to undergo training in Mt. Myoboku.

Sage and hermit is also used about a person who devotes his life to something. This is a parallel to leaving society. Like buddhist munks devotes their lifes to find enlightment. The same can be said about Jiraya, who devotes his life to find the chosen one as said in the profecy, and Naruto who devotes his life clear all hate from the world.
Sagemode is called so, because in order to enter it, you need to clear your mind(leave society). I dont think it has much to do with the so6p, but it might
