[Theory] Parallels between the Hokage Generations
Kishimoto is a man who is quite fond of producing parallels between generations and characters as a form of a prediction to the future of the manga or to enguise anxious-ness into his audience to predict powers that the respectie characters may garner. An example of this is Team 7 and Team Hiruzen who in many ways, parallel each other. However it is not limited to this as there is one more, larger parallel between the Hokage. Them being Hashirama and Tobirama paralleling Danzo and Hiruzen.
1. God(s) of Shinobi -
Three characters have been reputed to be known as the God(s) of Shinobi - them being Hashirama and Hiruzen. Is it simply coincidence or is there more to it? I believe there is more to it - Kishimoto did this on purpose for us to see the parallel. They were called the God(s) of Shinobi for there respective powers and leadership roles in the prosperous village of Konoha.
2. Leadership Style and Role in the Developement of Konoha -
Hashirama and Hiruzen are both humble, care-free men who want the best for Konoha and want the Will of Fire to be passed on to continue this prosperous attitude. They enjoyed diplomacy and negotations to resolve conflict. Examples being Hashirama begging Tobirama to forgive Madara and the Uchiha, and Hiruzen asking the Raikage for a treaty or deal to end the Hyuga affair. However, Tobirama and Danzo are quite the opposite. They both possess Utilitarian and in some rights extremist attitudes. Tobirama entralled the Uchiha to the Police Force to seperate the Uchiha from the rest of the village while Danzo in a sense, wiped out the Uchiha. Both wanted to remove threats as soon as they appear, not waiting for it to become bigger or worse. While Hashirama and Hiruzen hoped that discussion will end conflict.
3. The Uchiha Clan
Hashirama and Hiruzen had a negotiation and forgiveness policy with the Uchiha. Hashirama forgave the things Madara and the Uchiha did, for the betterment of the Ninja World. Hiruzen after the events of the Kyuubi Attack, wished to talk the Uchiha out of such an ideal. On the other hand Tobirama asked Hashirama not to pledge an alliance with such a clan and Danzo influenced a young Uchiha to wipe out his clan.
4. The Deaths of the Hokage
From telling the age that Hashirama died at, it is safe to assume he died soon after his fight with Madara as he maintains his youth. It is possible that Madara killed him in some shape or form. Hiruzen died fighting Orochimaru. Both Hokage died fighting someone that was close to them for the sake of the village in a classic one on one, but in both scenarios the antagonists had additional support: with Orochimaru it was Edo Hashirama and Edo Tobirama while for Madara it was Kurama. Tobirama died fighting a threat while trying to help his comrades escape. Danzo died fighting a threat (Sasuke) while trying to face another threat (Madara). Tobirama and Danzo could have bth defeated the threat had they not had another thing on there mind at the same time.
