That's definitely possible. The reason I'm saying that Kawaki willingly turning evil is a possibility on his own is because of the emotional tension in the preview. More on Boruto's than Kawaki's.

Remember, as I showed in the 1st scan Boruto said that he didn't believe Kawaki went as far as he did & the 2nd scan said that the age of shinobi is over.

That's why I think that it's a possibility that Kawaki turns evil on his own accord.
