[Theory] Jiraiya selfish "sacrifice" was entirely pointless?

Jiraiya's sacrifice was to make things as easy as possible for naruto. It didnt exactly pan out the way he wanted but it worked!
Why? If J man escaped(doubt it), he and naruto WILL still lose to pain.(YEs naruto didnt defeat nagato). Nagato believed naruto when he knew that naruto has the pain of losing his sensei but still made an inspiring decision to FORGIVE. Without J mans death, nagato wouldnt succumb to naruto's tnj as naruto doesnt know pain. J mans selfless sacrifice + naruto forgiveness reminded brainwashed nagato about the hero his sensei told him about
