THEORY: Itachi poisoned.

So since we really never know what Itachi was dying of or why, I think he was being poisoned by Obito. It makes sense seeing how he was putting a delay to his plans. Obito knew that Itachi wanted to really protect his village and, his brother, so why wouldn't he poison him or, find some other means of killing him without Itachi noticing. I just find it funny that it hasn't been revealed exactly how he's died yet. I think Kishimoto might be saving the mysteries of his death as a possible plot twist to turn Sasuke good again. Think about if Sasuke learned that the man he's been following Obito killed the man he's trying to avenge, Itachi, he would want to then kill Obito.

If it was the same illness as Itachi had then there's no need to go in depth. He had an illness that kills people, the end.

except that Sasori was the poison expert in Akatsuki and he could have developed a cure for him but Sasuke wanting to fight Obito all of a sudden shouldn't just automatically wash away all the bad he's done since then though....especially because he wouldn't be fighting for anyone other than himself....

Itachi could have died from any number of illnesses. He really didn't live a very healthy life.

1. Pneumonia - He sat still for long periods of time in the rain.
2. Hypothermia - Same as #1.
3. Brain tumor - He always bled from his eyes.
4. Hemorrhage - Same as #3.
5. Guilt.
