Well I was reading the theory on Hashirama's the hottest thread when it hit me. *BAM*
(This is my theory) Maybe he died due to a disease he caught later on. Just think about OP ninjas like Itachi and Kimimaro that were deemed unstoppable died due to a disease since thats the only way Kishimoto can see them dying. Its that simple!

Show me manga scans that says he can make medicine/ cure for sicknesses. Last time I check he recovers himself from physical harm with his medical ninjutsu.
