The gedo had used a similar technique like pein use to shield and push his enemies away

The chains are similar to kushinas chains and are used by the rinnegan in the gedos case

The juubi has likly diffrent versions of the abilities but only 2 stand out Human & Chakra chains

Its possible that the Rinnegan is a power from the Juubi, especially since the Rinnegan and the Juubi's eyes look alike.

Nagato probably channeled Human Path through the Mazo similar to how Obito channeled his Mokuton Sashiki no Jutsu through the Juubi.

Also the Mazo just tanked Choji's punch, he didn't absorb anything.
