Hatred caused the sharingan. So it was a trigger to new powers. Ems surpass Ancestor dojutsu in my opinion.

Stop spouting this illiterate bull. It takes the amalgamation of a massive amount of Yin with Yang to unlock the Rinnegan. With only the Yin, you cannot awaken the Dojutsu. And the Anime episodes are not a representation of the eye colors. They got the Rinnegan colors wrong twice before Kishimoto released the official colors of the eyes and they changed it accordingly during the Pein Arc.

OT: Plausible. Depends if it is expounded upon during the course of the manga. I'm of the opinion that, the ESD came about due to the lack of stabilizing Yang, and over time, the diluted blood through the Elder Son's lineage, had the Sharingan come about. Hatred is rooted in the eyes. To denounced the Eien No Mangekyou's prosperity in comparison to the ESD is moot because we can't actually compare.

Neji had great hatred towards his clan in P1 as he tried to kill his cousin Hinata. This is also proven that he never believed in destiny and hated the head of Hyuuga clan. The hatred he showed may not be comparable to the Uchiha but they do have great hatred. Reading at KGB Kakuzu explanation seems very plausible.
