As seen here, Absorbing The Juubi required no hand seals from Obito.

And, to our knowledge, all Jinchuriki seals requred some sort of hand seal or placement of a seal. Obito had his hands by his side, so he obviously couldn't have placed a seal or made one with his hands.

However, this is what we did see:

Kishi made a point of displaying Obito's Rinnegan after he had already sealed the Juubi, which leads me to believe that sealing the Juubi inside oneself is a Rinnegan technique.

This isn't so far-fetched, considering the Rinnegan and The Juubi have been proven to have a clear link between them;

The Gedo Mazo itself, which is in fact the shell of the Juubi, can be summoned by a Rinnegan technique. Is it so far-fetched to believe the Rinnegan has other techniques related to the Juubi?

Now why is this important?

It's important because this may have been what allowed the Sage to defeat the Ten Tails while no one else could; We've already seen that physical attacks and jutsu do next to nothing against the Juubi, so the Sage obviously couldn't have done that.

Perhaps the battle between the Juubi and the Sage wasn't a battle at all. Perhaps the Sage had the only means of defeating the Juubi:

The Rinnegan, and the only sealing tech capable of defeating it.

In Conclusion

Sealing the Juubi into one's self is an ability of the Rinnegan. Only those with the Rinnegan are capable of defeating it. This is why the Sage defeated while no one else could; he had the Rinnegan, which contains the only sealing tech powerful enough to defeat it.

Not possible because the Sage of Six Paths got the Rinnegan AFTER he absorbed the Juubi. Well there goes your theory

I believe he used Kamūi or a Kamūi Related Fūinjutsu. In addition, Rikudō gained the Rinnegan subsequent to the sealing of the Jūbi.

Was this canonically stated anywhere?

It also wasn't canonically stated that he was born with either; only that he possessed it. But OT: I doubt it. It probably had to do more with Kamui and or Izanagi that what you are ascertaining. Nice thought though.

It was Kamui bro

Regarding to todays chapter I have come to an obvious conclusion that Kamui is nothing more than a sealing method; Fūinjutsu. This will be a complex theory, nothing non-understandable.

Alright firstly I want everyone to take into account Totsuka Blade, this weapon's ability is quite similar to Kamui's sealing methods, and here is why:

Alright, now Orochimaru was sealed within that "Dream-Like" dimension in which Totsuka sent the victim to for all eternity, basically a Dimension of dreams. However, to escape that dimension Orochimaru was revived via reverse sealing:

Now what Totsuka Blade's ability, and Kamui had in common was that Kamui was also seen to have a dimension itself:

Alright, now that the similarities are compared, you all must know what Fūinjutsu is:

Pay close attention to the underlined context, as they will prove how Kamui does indeed branch into the Fūinjutsu category.

The first underlined context reads "Jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra etc." As we've already established Kamui's ability sends the person/object into a dimension:

The third underlined context reads "can also be used to unseal objects either from within something or someone." This has also already been shown within the manga here (revert back to chapter 598 pg.4 to see the whole panel):

I didn't quite go in order (skipped over the second underlined context) and the reason for that is because the second underlined context is the most important into believing that Kamui is Fūinjutsu. The second context reads "within another object.", now where have we seen that? Exactly, in today's chapter.

Take notice of the Jūbi being sucked into Kamui. Take note that the Jūbi is nothing but chakra, something that the first underlined context was said was sealed within Fūinjutsu.

Then moments later the Jūbi was transported (and sealed) into Obito:

Kamui = Fūinjutsu | Naruto Wikia, and Narutobase RP need to add this as its new classification. Hope you all agree.

This doesn't make sense to me.

Then did Obito gain Sasuke's or Karin's power while they were in Kamui, or in other words sealed? Unless kamui is a dimension within Obito himself, I don't see how Obito could gain access to the chakra.

His right eye was faced down, and his hand covers it even now. If anything, it looks as if the Juubi was absorbed into the right-hand side of his body. Doesn't look Rinnegan related.

Probably his zetsu half (Hashirama body) allowed him to merge with the Juubi.

Obito was on his deathbed, he had very little chakra (white hair) & his kamui eye was being controlled by zetsu. Its next to impossible to assume that obito used a kamui to engilf the juubi when he barely had any chakra or life.

Imho, obito had previously synced himself with the gedo mazou, next chapter will most likely show us how obito connected himself to the gedo statue before the war.

This is definitely all plausible and would make a lot of sense! Good theory!

Theres the simple alternative that he just used the petra path of the rinningan and absorbed the jubei's chakra. Similarly to how Nagatos petra path tried to absorb Narutos sage chakra and turned to stone...but a slightly a bit diffrent.
