Notice anything?
There's a resemblance between Zetsu and Nawaki. Could it be that Nawaki is the "original" that the Zetsu talked about? After all they're all clones. Therefore, there can be no "original Zetsu.
I theorize that Madara was the one who set the trap that "killed" Nawaki and inserted Hashrama's cells inside of him and used a clone jutsu as a corpse that was found. The motivation would be that being disappointed in the current generation, Madara realized how much Nawaki was like his grandfather. And madara discovered a unique genetic trait in Nawaki to replicate the abilities of someone he's sampled. So Madara did it to continue the "fun" he had with Hashirama. And the reason Nawaki hasn't tried to stop Madara is because he wants his grandfathers "greatest treasure" to last forever via infinite tsukyomi.
What do you guys think? Be polite about this. This is just a theory after all.
